RM Recruiting Officer wrote: Newly qualified Officer's pay. You can get that information off the website but it goes as follows.
1. You will be commissioned on Day 1 as a 2Lt on about 22k going up to 25k after about a year (I think, it has probably gone up since I was promoted). You're then on 35k as a Captain which you'll reach after 2yrs from the start of training. The money's ok but definitely not the reason you do the job. You'll get a bit more in allowances so you can get home on the weekends and some more cash when you are away training or on Operations.
Just to clarify, does this mean that two years after starting YO training at CTC you are promoted to Captain.

Also, I understand that recruits can be backtrooped, how does this work with officers? Obviously you can't be backtrooped because there is only one course a year. Will they just kick you off the course, perhaps after many months of training?

Thanks in advance
Alex

Yes, as an RM Officer, you'll be a Captain two years after you enter Lympstone.
Officers are back-batched if they get a severe injury. They then do recuitment things etc and wait for a year until the next YO batch comes through. They don't bin you straight away unless you can't be fixed.

But isn't that only to those who are either graduates or 21 on year of entry? (Obviously being a gradute would make you 21+)

Edit: On the subject of Graduates, the pay form I was sent from AIB says Gradute 2LT is £27,000 and non-graduate £14,000, after phase 2 is everyone on the same banding ? (Regardless of seniority due to age?)

Yes, you are correct. If you are under 21 on entry you will become a Lt after phase 2. I know that they get paid much less during training but I am not sure what happens after phase 2 in terms of salary though, the AFCO will know.

how long do you spend as a troop commander before getting stuck in an office or does this depend on specialisation?

You do a year as a Troop Commander and then change jobs but you may get another Troop Command for two years. It depends on many things, luck being one of them. If you never want to work behind a desk then don't join as an Officer, you have to do some deskwork even as a Troop Commander. That's why you get the extra pay and need the education.

Arr but can you read a map?

Quote from a disgruntled Bootneck to an equally disgruntled Para down south after the surrender in 1982.

"You had it dead easy mate, we had that worst nightmare of all with us, an Officer with a map!"

The Para looked long and hard at the Bootneck........Put his arm around the Bootnecks shoulders and replied.

"Let it out mate let it all out you poor sod!"

On that note I will collect my coat and bid you all a fond farewell from this thread and leave it to the guy who has all the info you will need in your quest to earn the Green Lid as an RM Officer. RM Recruiting Officer over to you dear sir. :D :D

RM Officer. What gets organised in the mess for WAGs? Are they invited to most functions?
