Quick question, photos included...

Post by Riggsy »

I'm really up for joining the Marines now, I feel I'm half way through my fitness training but I'm still a bit wary about my tattoo's. Any of you lot seen lads in training with tattoo's as big as mine?

All input much appreciated, cheers Riggsy.

My guess would be you'd get the same answers you got last time you asked this same question but since you obviously never took in the responses from either you AFCO or the people who replied to your first thread what would be the point in people taking the time to respond to you again?

Are the tissues next to your bed part of your training too?

Have a word with your AFCO. You will have to go see him at some point anyway.

And some ciggies for afterwards...

Hope some PC type doesn't object to the 'offensive' nature of the Devil tattoo. Sounds possible these days.

I'm asking again because even my AFCO can't even give me a definite answer!

Well if you don't have tattoos on your face, neck or hands then it should be alrite. I'm sure it says about all this info on the website.

If you keep asking on here though i'm pretty sure people will get the hump with you sooner or later. I've seen loads of lads on the videos of the Marines and other parts of the military with tatts so why should it be differant for you? They've got tattooed arms, just yours are a bit bigger.

Remember next time, tatts are for life, not just for Christmas. :o

LOL ^^

I don't regret getting them at all!

I'm well aware that as long as they are not on your face, hands or neck it's ok. It's the excessive size bit that I'm worried about...

Not even if it stops you getting your career in the Marines?

Good luck anyway, just go and apply, or ring another afco. Surley one of the other afcos must have dealt with similar situations. Just ring some others and you'll probably find your answer.

It doesn't make sense that they dont know about this though, what will they do when it comes for you to apply, oh sorry mate we're not sure about that.

Not a problem, unless the rules have changed somewhat. Lots of lads have tats on their lower arms, you don't often see sleeves like that tho! As long as there's none above your collar line, from what I can see there, you're fine. Stop worrying (and bothering everyone  ).

SF's probably out tho... :o

When I was in RT the only thing tattoos were good for was the PTI's ripping the arse out of them.

Hmmm, getting ripped for having tatts? I'm sure I got a booklet from the AFCO and the PTI in the pictures had a few tatts here and there. Could be wrong though.

Would you take the urine out of a PTI for having tat's :o Doubt it would be the smartest move of your life!

Cheers, a comment that I'm after. But how am I bothering everyone? I didnt think I was? It's a forum right? This thread doesn't pop up everytime you log in does it?

My AFCO did say anything up from collar or down from cuff could/would be a bar to entry, I tried to explain that I have a full sleeve on my right arm but all he could say was "Should be fine."

I have been training now for a month, I don't want to do more training then get told my tattoo's are stopping me from joining, what a waste of time!

I wish there was some where or someone that could give me a definite answer and I'm sure other lads with big tattoo's are in the same boat, if not now but at the time!

I'm trying to get some replies off the lads that are in training at the moment, so to anyone that is, are there any lads in your troop with tattoo's as big as mine?

I just found this on the net...

http://www.specialist-reme-ta.co.uk/pdf/AFCO5.pdf

On page 4 it again states...

1.9 Tattoos/Body Piercing.

The Armed Forces have a policy on Tattoos and Body Piercing as follows:

a. Tattoos. Any tattoo(s) which is/are offensive or obscene will be a bar to entry or re-entry. Additionally tattoos
should not be visible on the head and neck. Furthermore any tattoo(s) excessive in size or number may be a bar to
entry or re-entry. You may be asked to complete a form describing your tattoos.

Its the excessive size bit im worried about! How can i find out for sure?
