When people say "Im not sure what I wanna be, maybe a Royal Marine, maybe a *something else*".

They say it as if they can choose whether to be a Royal Marine or not, like its something they can just go and be.

Know what I mean?

yeh i know what ya mean. most people on my public services college course didnt know what they wanted to do and were saying "ohhh. i like the sound of the marines... AND the police... AND the fire brigade... oh and the BTEC first diploma in child care nextdoor!" and this was at the end of the course!
if youre that determined to join a particular force/service then youll stick at it.

Definetly true if you are that determined and focused on one particular goal (green beret or police) you will have what it takes to achieve it. Its a case of wanting something so bad that you believe nothing can stop you and you will achieve what you want. I learnt this after I lost my first boxing bout, taught me just how much mental strength is required to accomplish my goals.

People who say "ohh, I'll give the Marines a try. Want to keep my options open." they are the ones which go down to CTC and drop out on the 3 miler or are phased out well before PRMC. Some may get through PRMC, they they have 32 weeks of Commando training in which if you lack determination you won't succeed. Lots of my mates are contemplating joining but they know it will by no means be easy.

I boxed at a young age, before I was brought into martial arts. I miss the sport, and I missed Calzaghe last night  .

I thought that Khans opponent fought a good fight. Cant remember Calzaghe V Manfredo fight because I was too pissed at the time, just remember it being stopped and he werent trying (Manfredo).

Bring on UK VS US Contender. UK gonna win   .

You thought khans opponent put up a good fight? Did we watch the same fight?

Atleast Manfredo looked pissed off when the fight got stopped and I know he would of carried on until he dropped.

Khans opponent wasn't even hurt badly and you could tell by the look on his face in the first 30 seconds he didn't belong in that ring. No heart in him whatsoever, you could tell he had alot of energy in him but he was too scared to throw a punch..Nothing to do with this post, sorry for hi-jacking. :)

Calzhage rules, bring on next apponent, he goin down...

Calzaghe on Jeff Lacey has to be one of the most beautiful sporting spectacles I have ever witnessed through a screen. It was pure poetry in motion. Lacey, aswell as the U.S scene were made fools that night. Calzaghe was God.

I was there addiction, I went to the Lacy vs Calzhage for my 22nd bday with four of ma mates, made a party out of it then we went to the boxing at MEN arena.

Needless to say the atmosphere was like no other, it's funny when the US send over their "best fighters" , only for Calzhage to give them a good beating and send them home to lick their wounds. To be fair Manfredo looked untouched, but Jeff Lacey was another story.

Can't wait to see Calzhage send home another of "Americas best".

i'll apologise for hijacking this read aswell but i thought i'd get my two-penneth in....first of all i'd like to show my disappointment at the US for trying to cash in on boxing and popularise/commercialise it so to speak, making reality shows etc and people like manfredo out to be 'celebrities' or 'contenders', shame on the sugar man aswell but i suppose he will always get off on the whole public image thing,im sorry but i just dont get the whole hype;the way manfredo made himself out as 'the real rocky',or the way someone(think it was itv-jim rosental,or sugar ray) can compare mafredo vs calzaghe to leonard against hagler, that fight was nothing but hype and money making, and just proves that boxing has lost its way a bit, where are all the real fighters???no disrespect to joe,he can only fight whos put infront of him,but come on where is todays equivalent of duran/hearns/leonard/hagler,or even benn/watson/eubank/collins??dont even get me started on the heavyweights lol

sorry for the essay, just come in from night out and read the thread,in reply to the previous posts...wish i was at lacy v calzaghe, dont think we'll ever see a better performance from joe,and i dont think its a case of the US's 'best' fighters by a long shot, there's alot harder fighters but unfortunately the boxing politics calls the shots, again,no disrespect to joe but he's had a fairly easy run,hes a good boxer, great accuracy and hand speed, but i'd of loved to see him against benn/eubank/collins all in their prime,i dont think he'd be so loud-mouthed then after benn caught him with a nasty left hook or eubank wore him down with the jab.with regards to khan, amazing potential, but i think warren's protecting him too much and needs to give him bigger challanges.
Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour'
