Specialisations
Just out of curiosity (and the fact that I am bored at work!) I wanted to see what applicants & recruits saw themseleves doing in the corps.
I have thought about this obviously has otherwise I wouldnt have applied. I will hopefully become a Platoon Weapons (Sniper) and eventually Mountain Leader. I have been told that theses are two hard specialisations to get into and that you need to be a JNCO so a few years as a GD Infantryman first.
However with basic training a month away all my thoughts and efforts are on getting through that.
(Please note that this isnt about who is best, its just to see what peeps want to do)
I couldnt enter all specialisations as it wont let me enter that many options so have narrowed it down as best as I could. If yours isnt on then tick other and say what you want to do in a post.

These ML's are fit lads and hard as cast iron nails. If your fit enough to become a ML the your fit enough to be SBS. I think you should concentrate on passing out before even contcentrating on specializing, that to me seems to make you a bit arrogant. thikking that your going to pass out that easily.General Duties for a few years, but somewhere along the lines I'm aiming for Mountain Leader.
SBS is tempting but I'd never be fit enough
Listen in men give 100% or i will thrash you till your eyes bleed!

Agreed, there is always someone fitter than you, unless your Fit Lad Mc'fit, and Fit Lad Mc'fit is busy pushing his pressup score while others discuss it on a forum.rambo wrote:These ML's are fit lads and hard as cast iron nails. The Recruit
Just get through the 9 month course that leads to getting your Green Hat, then do a tour in a Commando Unit. You will then be in a position to judge what you would like to do.
The world is your oyster!! You will know by then what you can (or cannot) do!!
Good luck!

Why can't you accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.

I know what you mean. I hate telling people that I am joining the marines. It's like setting yourself up for a fall if you fail. ... not that I plan on failing!andy_s wrote:I don't even like to say im attempting to join the R.M's as it sounds like im bragging and i don't like to tempt fate.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming... 'F*ck, what a trip!'

Lads trust me when I say all my thoughts and efforts are on passing the 32 week recruit course.
It was just the case that I was at work and bored that I thought I would ask out of interest.
As I said before I couldnt put all specialisations in as it wouldnt let me, thats why I put other so that peeps could select that and say in a post what they wanted to do.
You dont have to do general duties, but this is what most recruits go in to. Plus its not definite that you will get what you want you can be sent anywhere to be trained in any of the specialisations.
Just got back from my Recruit Training Brief at the AFCO. Im all motivated and pysched up now and just want to get on with it!!
There was a guy there who had just been briefed on the PRMC and me and the other lad who going to be recruits were asked to tell him about the PRMC and he looked quite worried as we told him what it was all about.
