I heard a reference to this somewhere. Is there any difference between this course and the ordinary Sigs course?
Also, do all signallers see service in a combat troop or are some kept back around the admin areas on ops? Can you choose to be/stay as a combat signaller?
Thanks

Steve a combat Signaller is something in the Army.

All Signallers in the RM's are Commandos first. They serve in all area's of the corps as do all GD ranks, you will find more GD ranks in the echelons than Signallers.

Signallers are involved in all aspects of the Marines they deploy down to Troop level and do the same yomps and firefights as that troop would do except perhaps with the added weight of a raido and spare batteries plus the responsibility of ensuring they have communications with the commanders, they are also the people who will call in fire support, helicopters to get you out, and Casevac (Medical evacuation) so without someone doing this role the remaining troops would be pretty exposed.

In the Falklands J Company was formed and many of the sections were manned by SQ ranks not GD ranks, ie Clerks, Chefs, and these were commanded by the same SQ Cpl's one a very good friend of mine Al Sharpe who was a Signaller.

What kind of fitness standards are they looking for in the selection for the 8week commando course. Which area of the body do u concentrate on.

Difiant, in the Royal Marines we have our own Signallers, the only Royal Signals support we have is in Brigade HQ & Commando Logistics in the form of Tels Techs (Radio Fixers) They usually do the Commando course and then attached to the Brigade HQ there is a Det from 30 Sigs who provide the rear link, they don't.

The Combat Sig's course is for the Royal Sig's and is usually the driver and guy who looks after the generators, not the most intelligent of beasts... Image...

the part of the body that is concentrated on in the All Arms Commando course is the Mind! of course you have to be all round fit too.

Defiant. you misudnerstand...

1. Combat Sigs is a trade in the Royal Signals much like Tels Tech and Cypher tech.

2. Combat Sigs is the one which requires the least qualifications to gain entry into the Royal Sigs.

3. Combat Sigs from the Royal Sigs do not get the option to support the Royal Marines therefore no option to do th All Arms Commando Course (AACC).

4. Tech's do but by the nature of TEching this is 3rd and 4th line support so will be in the rear... but the can serve as part of Cdo Log Regt RM and 3 Cdo Bde RM (HQ & Sigs Sqn) where they will be expected to complete the AACC, though some do not.
