Hi I am looking for some advice on becoming a PTI
I am nearly 29 and I have been working as an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor for four years. I am interested in becoming a PTI. I am reasonably highly qualified as an Instructor with a lot of experience in the outdoors and also have a degree (in Music).
Would this previous experience be an advantage? Are the RAF recruiting PTIs at the moment and how competitive is it to get in?
What are the career prospects for a PTI, for example could I aim to manage an adventurous activities centre?
thanks for your input

I'm not sure whether or not we're currently recruiting, best to speak to the AFCO on that one.
There are opportunities to specialise in AT though, we have centres in Wales and Scotland, and there are plenty of expeds run from every station that you could get involved with.
Instructor qualifications will always make you more competitive than your average 18yr-old fresh out of college, but make sure you are more than able to hit the same levels on the fitness tests. Also be aware that you will have to do your fair share of the less interesting duties/postings as well as the AT stuff.

You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.
