A Question

Post by CPOUSCG »

Are CPOs in the Royal Navy afforded the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as Chief Petty Officers in the US Navy and The US Coast Guard? Separate messing and quarters, uniform differences from junior sailors etc.

Are there indoctrination/initiation rights and ceremonies for advancing to CPO in the Royal Navy such as there are in the US?

In the the USN and USCG advancing to "Chief" is the single most important advancement in a sailor's life, is this similar in the Royal Navy?

Thanks,
Chief Machinery Technician Nate Mayo, US Coast Guard

1. Don't know, as I have no idea what rights and privileges the US get. Uniform is different to junior ratings. and messing is generally the same as for Petty Officers depending on the size of ship or shore establishment that you are serving in.

2. There are none, other than buying a few beers to celebrate with your shipmates.

3. No. Every promotion in the navy is important regardless of how hard you worked to achieve it.
