Stacks of places were off limits to service personnel in the 90's (pubs, clubs hotels), I remember being refused house insurance, credit and the like because I was in the forces. We weren't very popular at all but you'd think that times would have changed given the current climate. It's nothing new and certainly not a sign of the demise of this country....

It's quite simple Flighty. IMO Whilst a solider who had been injured in Afghanistan fighting for this country has been refused a bed, due to the heavy chains of political correctness I bet if a person who had somwehat differing views on this country's military policy would be allowed one.

Mya, I bet. If the hotel's parent company is listed an exchange i'd like to have seen the price plummet.

Well from Sully's post I wasn't aware that this was "traditional" so to speak so my first comment has been proved wayward.

In answer to wether it is a cheap, racist and sexist comment, well if you are of the ZaNuLabour school of thought where anything resembling patriotism is labelled "racist" then yes I suppose your are right. These are the same people need I remind you that have tolerated British soldiers wounded in the middle east to be verbally abused by Muslim women in Sellyoak hospital.

I remember a couple of years' ago on the local news that they had stopped soldiers returning from a tour of duty from getting into pubs and nightclubs.

It doesn't say it on the article but when it was on the tv the army leader, I can't remember his rank, was wondering where to find the gratitude for his men risking their lives in Northern Ireland, only to return to this.
