Post by qcnr »

I have commited myself to a triathlon with a difference that is held in a
local Fjord.

It consists of
25K paddle (kayak)
Climb europes longest continuous flight of steps 4444
10K walk/ yomp
30K cycle back "down"

What should I take with me in the form of food/ drink. It is estimated to take +/- 12hrs
Every meal a banquet, every paypacket a fortune...

Cdt Cooper, by God 8) How`s yer boots, Steve?

qcnr, wot? No swim  It`s a triathlon with a difference, in that there are four events :o
Seriously mate, this looks like a hell of a day out.
Start 48/72 hrs before, by eliminating red meat from your diet, it takes too long to digest to be of any benefit. Get yer carbo-loading up by being Mr Pasta. Loads of thick creamy, cheesy pasta, loads of mashed spuds. On the event, you could do worse than just eat bananas, high in fructose and sucrose, potassium etc. Mars bars and the odd Complan. Definately avoid stimulants in hot drinks(heat the Complan, if you`re cold  ) Isotonic sport drinks are expensive and you have to carry the bottles so try and find powdered versions, like Gatorade, which you add to your water.
When/where is this to take place mate? Are you going to put it on your website?
Good luck on the day, qcnr, enjoy yourself, and have a couple of E-Dahls at the finish
Aye, Harry

As Harry said, load up on the carbs big time - go wholemeal; it digests slower and releases the energy over time. So plenty of w'meal pasta and rice and spuds....
On the day - before hand, during and after go for a glucose/Isotonic drink... plenty about - Lucozade, Gatorade - I use Maximuscle's VIPER.

Excellent stuff!

Popular with alot of professional athletes, footballers and boxers.

It has spurred me on in the gym, whilst running and playing football... some times you can't stop me, boundless energy!

Good luck mate! :drinking:

Thanks for all the tips

Ive talked to a few people about this (Its my first time doing an endurance race, apart from Commando tests ) and they think Im mad.
Well one of the blokes here has done the Eco-challenge so Im up against some pretty good competition.
Anyway one rule Ive already found is
Rest (upto) 5min every hour to eat and drink!!!!

Good luck on the 30 miler those of you that are going
Every meal a banquet, every paypacket a fortune...

Rest (upto) 5min every hour to eat and drink!!!!
Rest with your feet higher than your head, this drains the lactic acid and shite from your leg muscles back into your core and prevents cramps. Think about load carry, think about Livex, think about nutty, (little and often) but mostly, think about bananas. The riper the better, as more of the flesh turns to use-able energy in a ripe banana than there is in a green one. Don`t wait for an hour between drinks, keep yerself topped up by sipping as often as you can. Don`t worry about too much fluid intake, it will only make your piss lighter in colour. ( you knew this anyway, mate  )
Stick some phots on your site after the event is what I meant to say,
Gud Fjelltur 8) and if you can`t get E-Dahls, jembrant will have to do.
Skoll :drinking:
And the best of luck to you, qcnr( strange name, strange guy :o )

Aye,

Some great links there, q, but where has all the snow gone?
Is global warming really that bad??? :o
There is nothing on Commando Cse to match this, in terms of shear balls-out aerobic endurance. The 10k paddle is a great cardio-vascular test in itself. Then you have all those steps. The end of this phase needs a major rest with yer feet up, before you start the run. Don`t be in too much of a hurry to start it. Get some hot scran down your neck and give your pulse-rate a chance to recover. Don`t know what age you are mate, or how competative you are planning to be, but simply finishing this event would be quite an achievement. :o
Once again, all the very best to you.

"For a three day race we carried

small packets of energy powder to ad to water bottles
shots of energy gels
Clif bars ( swap em for power bars etc )
Mars Bars (yup!)
wayfarer ready meals - try expedition foods on the web
cheese sandwiches

Other things carried were:

flapjack
maltloaf
dried fruit
jelly babies
bananas

At half way point we had extra
chocolate
coke/diet coke (?!)
bread
rice pudding (can get this as part of the meals)
fruit cake
tortillas
crisps"

Thats from runners world, hope it helps.

I did a two day event with ace races, plenty of energy drinks, powerbars, high protein bars for recovery, mars bars, jelly babies and loads of quick cook pasta between events. I don't think you'll get a rest. Maybe add pop tarts are these are roughly half complex carbs and half simple and you can eat them cold and quickly, will also make you thirsty so you'll drink more.

On the drinks side I'd recommend a hydration system, means you can drink all the time while keeping your hands free for random gestures. Even the corps were using them in Iraq!

At the moment High Five and Science in Sport are selling starter packs with about £18's worth for a tenner! A fair investment.

Never before has such an impressive line up of muscle growth nutrients been combined in one formula. Each 70g daily serving of 8000GL provides you with a whopping 10g of Creatine Monohydrate & Glutamine. Research shows plain Creatine taken alone results in 60% wastage and is poorly absorbed. For maximum Creatine uptake into the muscle, it must be taken with a simple carb (dextrose is best). This raises blood sugar levels, forcing insulin to be secreted, thereby force feeding Creatine into the muscle for quicker and more effective results, than taking Creatine alone. In fact, around 130% better. 8000GL gives you a sensible 44g per daily serving of dextrose, along with D-pinitol, the unique insulin increasing nutrient, giving you superior muscle loading results, without you getting fat, unlike other high carb formulas. 8000GL is the only formula to also include patented Albion chelated Magnesium, which research has shown to improve the uptake of Creatine by nearly 200% and the absorption by nearly 100%. In line with the latest research, you now get a new Bicarbonate blend, which lowers stomach acidity. This dramatically reduces the conversion of Creatine to the waste product ‘Creatinine’, aiding absorption and maximising your results, whilst dramatically increasing Glutamine uptake ensuring far better results than any other Creatine formula you will find. For all round performance and recovery, the finest Acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) is included for immune boosting, hormone optimisation, strength and well-being. Each and every day customers rave about the effectiveness of 8000GL. Within 7 days of using 8000GL in conjunction with your training regime, you’ll notice greater strength and size. After 30 days, many people can expect to put on up to 14lbs of muscle and increase strength by 25%. 8000GL kicks butt like nothing else you’ll find. Creatamax mixes instantly with water, tastes great and comes in 3 delicious fruit flavours.

you want some of this!! Harsh stuff

Hi

This may seem slightly irrelevent, but I am quite worried...

Looking back this may seem extremely trivial, but Ill ask it anyway...

I have loads of chocolate and sugary foods during the day. I feel hyper and then I feel tired.

Im addicted to chocolate!

Will this affect my health or anything?

Should I be worried?
