Student need help for homework about british army- asap

Post by mschi »

Hey.
I'm a 20year old student from danmark and need really your help.
I don't know where to put in this topic, so I hope it doesn't matter, that I put it here...
I am working on a homework for university concerning the field "women in language: a comparison between English and German- showen at the example of the British Army and the German Bundeswehr"
While researching I got some problems, because neither the minestery of defence nor the British Army answered my questions. So I have no information about the British army yet.
I need to know, if there are different ranks for men and women in the army and how long women are allowed to serve at all.
It would be also really great, if someone will tell me, where I can find online-laws abou that topic.
Really every help is welcome, because I have to write the paper until next Thursday.
Maybe there ar topics in the forum about my questions, but I couldn't find them.
So, I really sorry for my somehow stupid question, but I need help, and I hope and guess, that there will be somebody in here, who can answer my questions.
Also sorry, for my English, but I hope everyone can understand, what I wanted to say (not easy at all to write an english text knowing that the readers will be native speakers ;) )
Thanks a lot and I am really looking forward to get some feedback

Hello mate,

Men and women in the British Forces are now employed on exactly the same terms (or so I believe). The only exception to this is that women are still not allowed to serve in 'front line' units (which consist mainly of the infantry regiments/Corps).

I imagine a good place to start would be the Army's 'equal opportunities' policy, which can be found on the official website.

thanks a lot for the quick answer.

so as they are allowed to do same things (except of front), they are also called the same? so you can't decide wheater it as a female or a male admiral out of the name?

hope you understand, what i mean ;)

Exactly, you wouldn't know from a person's rank if they were male or female. I'm a Sergeant. (I'm female by the way...)

I'd be happy to mate, but being a Royal Marine (which is considered a 'front line' unit) we do not have females...that said, I've worked alongside plenty of other units who do employ females on equal basis to their male counterparts. Hyper is perhaps better informed (and doubtless has stronger views on the subject...she is a woman after all  ).

PS. Hyper, we've never really met...please send age, marital status and photo... :drinking:

Only playing, don't shoot me
