Haha good news! Not meaning to insult your intelligence I was wondering if I should put one of those winking smily faces at the end of my post so everyone knows i'm joking, as seems to be standard procedure on MFAT. Then i thought nah! A personal favourite of mine are those people that turn up at th...

Some people get a bee in their bonnet over anything, even something that they have no business judging. I was given an RM t-shirt after passing POC. The other day after going to the gym I was mistaken for Royal by a guy from 1 Lancs. However I wasn't selected for the batch so I'm still in the proces...

Re: Pre-joining fitness test
Pre-joining fitness test This is a 2.4km (1.5-mile) run on a treadmill that you can do at a local fitness centre. You have to finish in 10 minutes and 45 seconds. Does someone from your local fitness centre record this or does some one from your local AFCO come and record your time etc?? Thanks I h...

Ignore what Spence said the real way to gain strength and size is this: Firstly , use the money you should spend on food to subscribe to a quality magazine such as Mens Health or Mens Fitness (personal preferance). These have some amazing articles in them such as how you can do a total body workout ...

Cracking story mate, although I'm of the disposition that I would have chinned you regardless of the fact that we both shared a common interest! Let us know if his granddaughter is tasty! And as for Brian- I suppose you've never done anything bad in your life have you? Cheer up, you miserable ...

What druadan said is right: you burn a higher % of calories from fat at 50% max heart rate. However, at a higher hear rate (like 75%) you burn less calories from fat, but more calories overall so the effect on fat loss will be the same for the most part. If your goal is fat loss exercise at 65% max ...

I'll dig in a bit of advice! :) Personally just try and fit in as much phys as you can. When you cant be arsed to run, cycle. When you want to drive somewhere, walk (If its within reason!) Cycle to work Etc etc. All this helped me mate! Went from a year ago doing my furthest run of 3 miles in 31 mi...

I'm well aware of what they expect you to do at CTC and funnily enough, I'm also aware that it isn't an athletics meet. The format for the three miler has been changed very recently, so my dissapointment was referring to the fact that my time spent training for a 5k best effort could have been bette...

The key to upping your training is progression. Don't just drop what you're doing and leap into a 6 day per week training programme. This is the surest way of injuring yourself or becoming de-motivated with training altogether. The programme polynikes has suggested is a suitable overall goal to aim ...

Jarhead - You're not going to get many responses on here if you don't use the search function and you don't use correct grammar and spelling. Fartlek is like interval training in that you alternate between running hard and recovery runs. Apart from that interval training tends to be more structured ...

Going on from AJ's post, increasing your speed and distance are the most obvious methods to improve on your time. Initially choose one or the other per run, don't increase both distance and speed in the same run. You could also look at sharpening exercises to include such as hill sprints, interval t...

I find this 2 * 1.5 mile style dissapointing. Running 5k at my own tempo I can do it in 19:56. With this format I'd have to run 1.5 miles in 7:26 to equal my time  I'd rather they gave us a 'warm up first' and then let us loose to do the 5k in our own way. I'm happy to be running 1.5 miles in 9...
