Re: Commando Engineer or Marine commando
Well, which does he want to do? Engineering or Infantry? Does he want to mess about with JCBs or mess about with mortars?

Re: RMP - Qualifications
Speak with your AFCO. A few years ago I knew someone who was allowed into a skilled trade on the condition that during his Phase 1 he took and passed a Level 2 Key Skills in Maths qualification, however this was at a time when the army was badly undermanned so things may have changed.

Re: Welcome
I hope you enjoy your trip, do you have any idea where abouts you might be staying ?? I'll be staying for about 2 weeks at SBTA. I'm a wheeled vehicle mechanic and recovery specialist over here, so I assume I will be with a unit that has similar job titles. Came across a few UK personnel when in Ir...

Re: The rifles
The only advantage that The Rifles have over other regiments is that they are bigger with 5 regular battalions instead of the more usual 2-3. This means that there are more snipers required as each battalion has its own snipers.

Re: Advice wanted!!
Finish your degree. As I'm sure you are aware, RMR training is very hard work. You'll be out usually twice a week (drill night and PT night) and you are expected to do a lot of phys in your own time. At the moment your degree is more important so concentrate on that and join up when you're done.

Re: Being Gay in the army -What is it REALLY like, truthfull
Honestly mate, you don't need to worry. I have a mate who is gay and we are both in the infantry - the most stereotypically manly/butch job in the army. I don't give a damn about his sexuality because I know that he is a bloody good soldier - something he has proven on operations. I even know a blok...

Re: Redundancy
Ask your chain of command. In theory with a good record you should be able to walk through the AFCO door the day that you leave.

Re: SA80 Cleaning Tips ?
How often do you clean it in the field? Remember that being on a two-day ex doesn't mean you should leave cleaning until your return to the TAC.

if so, what type? because women obviously do different types
You'll do the same, standard press-ups and sit-ups as everyone does.

Re: Infantry regiment choices
Rifles looks like a really good option, it looks like lots of different things going on because it's a big regiment. 1 Rifles do AACC so perhaps get involved in that if I can. 1 Rifles are part of 3 Cdo Bde, but it is worth pointing out that the army isn't a democracy. You may well want to go 1 Rif...
