Colmurph, I was referring to mass drops, SF drops in small teams are a different kettle of fish, and a tactic which I believe we still use when required. I'm surprised by the drop into Iraq, as I said I don't see the need for it in that climate; however, I'm no 5-start general  As GPW points o...

Graeme, I can't say I've followed these threads/stories/accusations particularly closely, as to be honest if people want to lie to others for the kudos that's their business. Most who have served tend to get a feel for whether someone who is genuine. But this does seem to have turned into an almost ...

Fair enough if to be a driver is what you want. But to do it because you can't be arsed to train enough to knock a minute or two off a mile and a half run (which lets be honest is little more than a leg stretch) hardly shows the right attitude. But then neither does most of the RLC, so maybe it's fo...

Daniel, may I first say many thanks for bringing some genuine discussion back to this forum, which has been on the decline for a couple of years now. I do not know a great deal about Op Frankton, indeed a lot less than yourself, Rover and Timex. However, here's my 2p. Reference your post: Just a tho...

Only if there is a job for you to fill that requires you do so. You could also look at the Royal Signals route if you're after a specialisation, there's a Para Sigs Squadron attached to 16AA.

its not all just about parachuting In fact it's very rarely about the parachuting nowadays - when was the last operational jump?! In fact there's a question colmurph, when did the Americans last make an operational jump? Do you still use it as a 'means of getting to work?' Current theatres don't ne...

You hope you get to go to Leconfield? Never heard that one before, but then I suppose the best time to go is whilst you're still in Nodi mode, cos that's what it's like :o

Suggest you read a bit more

Colmurph, it's not just to weed out those who aren't suitable for parachuting, it's to weed out those unsuitable for the Parachute Regiment, who do consider themselves the best of the Army infantry.

The problem with all things is health and safety and the litigation culture. If a civvy applies a tourniquet too tight and you lose an arm, you can sue them to high hell and they'll probably lose their career. Happens in the military, you're just lucky to be alive. That and the fact that primary aid...

I honestly couldn't tell you mate...not having much to do with that side of things, the only faces I can remember is the int officer and the essence chick who did the Air side of it...and I haven't a clue what capbadge they were! Pretty sure one was Navy and the rest Army, no Bootnecks, but couldn't...

Ofens, to continue Dwarfy's post:

Attatched Navy ranks (MAs being a notable example), various cap badges attatched at Commando Logs (many RLC), ranks wishing to transfer from whereever they are now to the Corps (although I believe whether this route is available is subject to various criteria).

The Battle Swim Test is slightly different: Wear CS-95, webbing with weight (I think equivalent to a couple of waterbottles, not particularly heavy), and rifle (rubber replica). Entry from the 3m board, swim 25m (normally to half-way and back to keep you in the deep end), hand webbing and rifle out ...

Not many 'Commando' ops in Afghan mate, no cliffs and no water. All infantry do the same job (just Bootnecks do it slightly better  ). I imagine you'd get drafted to the unit that's now part of 3 Cdo Bde, last I heard they're wanting to get that fully green-lidded (well, you know, slightly dif...
