I think you'll find there are quite a few members of the Paras who have a fear of heights, and I'm certain that every one of them is terrified when they are standing in the doorway ready to jump. However, it's the overcoming of that fear that make them special, so don't think you are alone in that a...

The London coys of the regiment's TA battalion 4 Para do some of their weekend training at Pirbright. However, you are right at the other side of the camp and at the weekend when there is no-one about, plus you will be on the go all weekend so you'll see very little of the place apart from when you ...

Re: Joining As A Family Man

You get 2 weeks of R&R when you may or may not be allowed home. [/quote]

Are you allowed to choose the date when you get R & R or is it a case of just being told when you can go.

Still looked good though!

Was that the build-up training for Afghanistan where John Reid turned up and said that he thought the tour could pass without a single shot being fired??

From depot straight to ops

If you finish depot and a battalion are on ops (like in Afghanistan), can you go straight on it from training if they are 2 months or so into it, or would you get posted to the battalion that isn't on it. Would the recruits do a kind of pre-op build up of their own whilst in training?

My oppo in 4 Para has his jumps course in June/July, though he didn't say whether it would be at Brize or the new place mentioned earlier. Maybe the jumps courses are just gonna run once or twice a year from now on.

Speaking of Terry Marsh, I saw him at the opening of the new white-collar boxing gym I help out at. He looks in terrific shape, and very young for his age. It was 20 years ago that he beat Joe Manley for the IBF light-welterweight title in Basildon. Wasn't it in a big supertent Ste?

I certainly think Froch will give Calzaghe a much better fight than Manfredo did. Although Froch isn't the No.1 contender, the WBO should at least install him as a ranked contender. If they let Manfredo, who is a blown-up light-middleweight, have a shot at Joe, then Froch, a legitimate super-middlew...

I have deleted my earlier post because it was full of swearing etc, and sounded stupid. The point I was trying to make is that like 803 Troop said, all this inter-unit slanging matches is daft. As was said, this is a tri-services site, a very good site, where we can all learn from the experiences &a...
