With regards to the Rifles, its 1 Rifles that are now part of 3Cdo Brigade and are effectively the 4th manouevre unit within the Brigade. From what I have heard they are loosely looking at being fully 'Commando' trained by the end of 2010. From what I can gather ranks within the Rifles 'volunteer' t...

Steve, Love them, listening to Viva la Gloria from tthe new album as we speak. My brother managed to get us tickets to the 02 Gig in london in October, happy with that. 'What I've done' by linkin park is the first track on my ipod's 'running' mix, with 'Rock the Casbah' following a little further in...

If your overiding desire is to join the RM, then I think you should. But why not consider the option of the RMR(Royal Marines Reserves)? Go to college and continue with your studies, and crack on with the RMR at the same time. They do the same training, same tests and pass out with a Green Lid, all ...

Brisks, There are plenty of guys who have joined the RM knowing that they will likely leave fairly early on, and not make a career of it, there is a fairly large problem with retention in the Corps as far as i am aware. This seems to happen alot more these days. Guys join, and get everything they wa...

Its one of the biggest misconceptions that armed forces personnall are capable in a 'street context', they may be fitter and more mentally robust than your average civvy, but there military training alone does not make them 'handy'! I have countless stories of some of my doorstaff handing out quick...

David, I personally think you should really think long and hard about going to Uni and joining the RMR whilst doing so. I was with the RMR in the latter part of my second year at uni and then the early part of my final year. Personally with the commitment at that stage of uni, for me, it was too muc...

Dawber, If you cant take a bit of sarcasm then your going to find training a very stressfull experience. If you ask fairly pointless and somewhat unimportant questions which the 'marker pen' one was (no offence Adam :) ) then you are going to be met with a sarcastic responce. However its all in good...

Ok mate I think we are making some headway. 'aggressive' attitude they displayed in contacts I did give you credit for that mate in my other posts. Yet aggression could have been counter productive in N.Ireland and in UN situations. I agree the Marines are the best looking, they do seems to get all...

Fusilier, I am not going to comment too much on the levels of successes of different Regiments/Units serving in Iraq or Afghanistan on recent ops. I have not served on ANY and therefore have no first hand experience and would not for one second comment on things i have not done myself. It is very ha...

There are guys in my RMR troop who have spent time in either the T.A or Regular Army who simply say that the standards across the board during our training is in a different league. The atmoshphere and proffessionalism in which it is delivered is what they mostly say is 'different', one guy picked u...
