Re: Gay Military Personnel

Mark, serving soldiers can't talk to people like yourself without prior permission from their CO. I suggest you go through the offical MoD channels, they'll be happy to help.

Re: What shall I do?

If you want to be a Marine, go for the Royal Marines. You are the one who will be doing the job for the next however many years.

As a Royal Marine you can specialise to become a member of the Royal Marines Police, so you can still have the police option open to you.

Re: TA medical question.

Hi , I have enlisted to join the TA and have just got to the early stage of doing my medical forms. My question is I am 100% healthy and fit for my age. The only flaw that may show up was I had a very complicated time last year and led my self into depression and took a over dose. Stupid I know but...

Re: Catterick CIC

Why did you decide to join the mincing Rifles when you could have joined Her Majesty's Foot Guards  In all seriousness, well done on passing CIC. In my platoon about 2/3rds of the blokes who started were either back-squadded, transferred of DAOR'd. CIC is one of the toughest courses you can do...

Re: Studying in and joining the military

-Could anyone give me a rough idea and breakdown of how long the joining process takes, for a recruit, from the time you first walk into the recruitment office to the start of basic training (specifically for a commonwealth citizen). Basically the length of time I have to be responsible for my fina...

Re: ADVICE ON JOINING.

ah okay thanks. They don't look for a certain height either do they? I am quite short (5ft6) Probably a dis advantage but hey ho! There is a minimum height, but it is something like 5ft - maybe even less. Personally I am bang on 5ft7 so not much taller than you and it hasn't really caused much of a...

Some RNR roles do deploy on ships, but mainly in a 'Force Protection' role, so standing on the upper deck with small-arms.

Re: Pioneer

Sounds good then. Don't fancy arsing around with IED's to be honest, but everything else sounds good. The wife won't be too happy about me going infantry, but I want that Rifles cap badge. I'm not gonna lie - and please don't think I'm being patronising - but IEDs are bloody dangerous so it's only ...

Re: Pioneer

As an Assault Pioneer then you'll be Rifles badged and be in your battalion support company. There is a nationally recruited TA pioneer unit based in Grantham. On Ops then annyone can find themselves as a dogsbody. As an Assault Pioneer nowerdays you tend to deal more with IEDs and preparing defence...
