Apologies for the tangent and the many speeling mistooks.
If I said 4th Regiment, would that mean anything to you Wholley?

True, very true. The only advice I can give to Reserve soldiers called in to Regular service (as that what it essentially is), is to switch on to your new units SOP's and work really fookin hard. Be all you can be and they will respect you for it. You'll never win everyone over, but they will eventu...

The TA unit in Afghanistan with 2 Mercian ( I think it was the London Regiment) started out on Force Protection for Bastion but proved themselves capable enough to be used on operations that the Regualrs were doing. It is a fact of life that Commanders will not trust TA units to carry out their jobs...

For those who are not familiar with Mobilisation, here is a post on what will happen to you as a Mobilised memner of the TA or Regular Reserve while at the Reserve Training Centre Chilwell. Whilst you may not realise, Chilwell actually has a very informative website. It's a shame you don't find this...

Hi, You'll more than likely want to look at your local Infantry regiment, which I think is the Yorkshire regiment. You'll be from a similar area from the other soldiers and probably feel more at 'home' around guys from your area. The Yorkies are cool guys, I've been trained by quite a few of them an...

Cheshires
Hey all,
I'm just wondering if there are any lads from the Cheshires out there. I'm not exactly expecting an overwhelming reply but you've got to try, eh?

Hi all, I'm about to go on deployment in October with a Regular Infantry unit to Afghanistan. I was just wondering, as this is my first Tour, if anyone has any particular tips on stuff to take with me. I know a lot of guys that have taken laptops and stuff - but just about anything that will make li...

I'd defintely recommend Reflected Glory and The Making of a Royal Marines Commando. RG follows certain individuals through training and then their experiences in Ulster during the Seventies. It's written from a narrative point of view, very easy to follow but, most importantly, it's a can't-put-down...

Ok, to clear this up, I'll write out the whole shebang (of the way we're doing it). 1. You Pass your Phase 1 basic training (patrols/field admin/range work/section attack etc.) 2. You have been indentified as a PO. 3. You do your Module 2 Officer Training (Map Reading/Signals/Platoon Atk/Orders and ...
