So it's not the first time they've decided that 30K+ a year and 4 days on / 4 days off was a raw deal then? Still - it was some of the best training I ever had with the STABs - First Aid At Work and Health and Safety and all that - didn't get to drive the Nee-Naw unfortunately. Not that I'm bitter a...

Sorry chaps,

The word 'Brigade' means the fire service for me, and conjours up memories of filling in for those greedy. striking, part-timers in 2002!

Ah, the sounds of the Green Godess piling out of the TA centre at 2am - happy days...

I've not noticed anybody wanting to be part of the newly-formed SRR and SFSG That's the way it should be! I'll get my coat. In case this isn't a wind-up - SFSG isn't a unit unto themselves - it is made up of various elements from all three services - predominantly 1 Para with elements of RAF Reg an...

druadan,

Nice post there - not sure how much is fact though. Walking off cliffs and losing rifles?

You're right that only a couple passed - it was a particularly weak course.

Hello mate,

Glad you got the prescription - I just get mine from a dodgy medic...

Off to BC tomorrow for a couple of weeks - come on up if you get bored!

Cheers,

Ask adj125 - I think it was him.

He was 45 when he started selection the first time. He got badged the same day he got his bus pass.

You don't look a day over 50!

And don't tell me - you were 6'2" when you first did Selection - the hills wore your legs away!

My old TA unit was a light recce unit and had 2 x sniper pairs on it's orbat. Now that they've been re-roled I think the only non-sf unit to have snipers on their orbat is 4 para. That said though it's not what you know and your PSI can always bid you on to either the 2 weeks sharpshooters course or...

Hereford has it as usual. If it ain't flooding, it's some other random meteorlogical phenomenon for the yokels to moan about.

If you can't commit to the RMR - don't bother ringing any of the numbers for 21. These aren't the units to consider joining on the basis of locality.

As both SBS and SAS are Tri-Service under DSF the 'Army parent unit / rtu' thing isn't an issue.

If a Marine fails selection or gets RTU'd from Hereford he goes back to his Corps/Battalion whatever (or more likely sacks it for civvy street).

Guys, I think you should give the guy a break - he's only deciding which unit he should join to give him maximum exposure to brassing-up terrorists, baddies and the like. Unsure23 - If you're young enough I would join both - preferably 22 first, giving you the maximum amount of time to grow the requ...

We're not fighting the same wars in the same way as we used to either. The days of dropping battalion after battalion of death-dealing Paras into the quagmire are (thankfully) behind us. Like it or not the wars we fight today take place other than in the trenches. Yes there is a need for infantry an...
