When our lot join up the accommodation is as basic as basic can be. They are housed (for the time being) in one of the old blocks and the grots are like this...
New entry accommodation...
A pit
The bath

Right, you pass out of basics and then get moved into this!
Single cabin, telephone line, Ariel socket (that is connected to an ariel that works really well), you can use the phone line for an internet connection if you want. Bedding is Duvet and cover, fitted bottom sheet and you can subscribe to the laundry facility where they come and collect your bedding replacing it with fresh. You get a mini fridge in your grot, curtains and net curtains, a baggage area and coat hooks behind the door with a lock on the door and no locks on lockers!
Entrance to the room
Lockers
Moving round the room now
Pusser's bed and bedding, fridge and furniture
Ensuite!
Communal I'M A SCAMMER SPAMMER!!! / dhoby room
Communal TV lounge
Communal bath
Disabled heads/shower

This is SSLA (Single Service Living Accommodation) for all ranks.
No it isn't my room, the young lady volunteered her room and I wouldn't have a frog in the shower; it would fight with the duck!

Stix, that has to be a joke, is that really what Royal get's to live in!
Gary, are you joining the RM or the army, if it's the army then prepare for a shock when you go to catterick. The beds are like gym mats with woven straw for sheets, the pillows are like rubber and the less said about the showers the better. The bar's nice though

No porkies from me... they are all gen. I was quite shocked when I saw how nice it was. This accommodation is better than the mess, of that I kid you not!
The old accom is being phased out and this is the accom for all RN and RM ORs serving. When I first joined I spent the first 2 years living in a 12 man room. When I pased out it was a 4 man room, another 4 man room then a 3 man room. I never had a room of my own until I was a SNCO. As a Cpl on course I was in a 6 man room... and the youngsters today say they have it hard

Ho-hum...I look forward to getting to a unit then!! I'm sure I was told on PRMC that San Carlos block was for the Cpls when they'd finished refitting one of the other blocks so that Hunter Company could move out of it!! And that's the same sort of standard as the 6-man rooms shown above. Either that's my first lesson in not taking the training team too seriously all the time, or they will eventually replace all the accomodation at CTC/all other RM/RN bases??

I did IOT at our RMA, and the first 5 months were also in 10 man rooms. After that we did get our own room, but that was a lot smaller than the one above! About 10 by 12 ft and a communal shower and toilet. You could just fit a bed and a desk in there. In our Armed forces its actually not allowed to put service personell in rooms with more than 4 men, but the RMA is an exception as they say its better for the team-building process. But you get used to it and I enjoyed it for the most part.
