In days of yore, about 14 years ago................
first of all you had to submit your general request form to join the RM. then when your D.O. has stopped laughing you give them the stoney bootneck death stare and say "so sir, whats so f@#k funny about that request then?". then they will go very red in the face.you then keep your straight face and say " i am bloody serious or i wouldnt be here would i?"
then piss enough people off, then be seen beasting yourself down the gym going for long runs @ 0600-ish etc for months, giving up all runs ashore during the weeks and/or weekends.
i got told no, so i already had a pre-written request for discharge. after submitting it, 9 months later they realised i was actually serious, then they went through the "if you take your notice out we'll let you do the PRC" i said nope, let me do the PRC then i'll take my notice out when i pass the course and get my transfer date". they refused, so i just smiled and said ok then, not much longer until i'm a civvy then i'll walk out of this camp and walk straight into the careers office and join the corps that way *big smile* on my face.
a few weeks later i got my papers through for the PRC. *RESULT!* got told if you get a superior pass then you'll go straight away. anyway i did that, got the superior, the RM's asked for me to go straight into training asap. notice withdrawn as per the gentlemans agreement. anyway, the bloody navy said "ah - but we are now short of man power, erm so no you cant transfer yet". notice back in. got told i was childish. 9 months later they eventually said i could join the corps, but not before a certain date. i then got sent as an attached rank to 45 cdo to try and dissuade me from doing it - however i loved every minute of being there. eventually in july 1990 i joined, in 2003 i made sergeant
