Just wondering, after marines finish training, what sort of PT do they do in their unit? Are they given much freedom to persure their own personal ways of keeping fit? Or are they still required to go on proper organised runs and that?

I think fitness is basically down to the individual, but you still have to pass regular fitness tests to make sure you don't sit around all day getting fat.
I think thats how it works, hopefully someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Running from warzone to warzone killing all that oppose the corp, coupled with a strict diet of victories keeps the guys in good shape OR they probably just have troop PT sessions each day along with their own phys. I'm sure that staying in the marines requires just as much effort as it takes to get there no?
I'd also be interested to hear exactly how much phys a combat troop might do during a week home in the UK i.e. not on ops.

Don't get the idea that once you have left CTCRM it all stops. Because it don't!
You will be able to follow your own ways i.e. Sports, running in fact whatever you feel like doing. But the old Speedmarches wont go away and you will find yourself doing them most weeks. All the gym stuff will still be there also.
Volleyball will become a way of life. (jungle rules) It was for Sigs anyway.
You do get some blokes who will try anyway they can to avoid Phizz but they are caught out in the end. Normally when they struggle on a BFT then the powers that be will ensure that they get fit or hello Mr SNLR (services no longer required) and your out!
When embarked force you will discover the joys of Deck Hockey (Jungle Rules, no thats wrong. Deck Hockey dont have any rules) where you get the chance to cripple the opposition! I am not joking ref that last bit either. Blokes missing front Teeth and nursing a broken finger/wrist/arm was not uncommon. The Matelots used to dread it when up against a team of Bootnecks. Royal always won, and Jack would nurse his wounds.
Phizz is done in all ways and means is what I am trying to say. Be it Yomping over Dartmoor with a Chacon on yer back. Or running for miles doing a bit of X country running. You will if you have your head screwed on right maintain your fitness. Because when the sh*t hits the fan best you can keep up.

I was talking to a mate (a serving Royal) about this the other day.
He said that every morning starts with a PT session. This will normally be a run of 6-8 miles followed by sprints & press-ups, sit-ups etc... He said sometimes they run it in boots, others in trainers & sometimes with fighting order. Apparently on Friday morning the PTIs really hammer you as you're going to escape for the weekend. Most evenings he goes to the gym as well.
You also regularly do the basic tests (i.e. BFT, CFT). He did the BFT last week & got a bollocking from his CSM because he sprinted the last 100m. He was told that he wasn't putting in enough effort if he could sprint at the end. Don't know about you but I find I can always sprint at the end of a run no matter how knackered I am.

Wrong. Every morning starts with Breakfast! Then what you said.
Marines are not served food you just help yourself. Unlike the Army where some sour faced PRONG gives you a spoonful of chips and a spoonful of peas or suchlike.
Perce has always had a problem with Royal when it comes to Scran. Royal tends to ignore Perce and help himself regardless of what Perce says. Has made for some very interesting times to put it mildly. But Royal always gets his way in the end.
This is because Royal doing his normal thing tends to burn the Cals a Tad more than Perce does. So Royal can help himself. Whilst Perce is given what the Chef is ordered to issue to each man.

That was in my pre "Tupp three" days
Once I`d progressed onto the senior branch of the corps, every morning started with a half pint of Brasso followed by some interval drill

the PT can be anything from long log runs to a game of football, depends how lucky you are on the day.

When i was on my prmc i was speaking to a bloke who worked as a caterer, and sometimes he worked on various bases around england. And he was saying that when he used to 'tell' RM's that they could only have 1 of a certain item, they would retort with various death threats and ignore what he had just said. He also said that he used to dread going to work when he knew RM's would be there...........
