Irish head dress

Got back from CIC (TA phase 2 training) at the weekend. Great fun but i while i was there i saw some Irish Guard. Just wondering what their head dress is called.

If he was an Irish Guard, he'd be wearing a guards tan beret. Chances are you are talking about the Royal Irish. They wear a humongous thing called a corbeen.
First time I saw them was in Cyprus when the Royal Irish Rangers took over from us in '85. I saw them all jumping off the truck and thought, you've got to kidding me!
The sergeant-major of Sr. Div, NCOs tactical Wing in Brecon in '87 was a RIR. He'd stick his head out of his office window and scream, "Why's you wakin?" How that bloody great hat never got blown over the Beacons, I'll never know.
There are Royal Irish regiments in the Canadian Forces Reserves. "Big Hat Regimets" as they're known here! And I thought I was taking the piss wearing a Balmoral!

Thats probably it, a big green sack like thing. Was going to ask one but didnt know the best way of saying 'what the hell is that on your head?'

The Caubeen is worn by member of the Royal Irish Regiment it is also worn by pipers and drummers in the Irish Guards.
