An ex-mate of mine (now a ex mate as i didnt beilive about what he was doing) is a nazi racist, its a common thing here in bradford, and its not a thing a agree with, infact, i hate it. The point is, he rang me up today, trying to make peace, as he found out i was joining the Royal Navy. He is going to get a tatoo tomorrow, of a swatsticer (sp?) on his cheast, and claim's he's going into the army, in 21 days (as from 12/03/04) so, he's telling me, that hes done everything you need to do to join the army, and get a date, in 3 months. can this be right? he wants to see me tomorrow, and im GOING to avoid him, i dont want to be around 'nazi racists'

The point of this is... would they actually allow him to join the force's with a swatsticer (sp?) Tatoo'ed on his cheast? and if they do, i think that just is'nt right!

I would not want to work with someone who was a racist nor someone who openly displayed racist views.

You are the one who knows this person, why don't you ring the A.C.I.O. and let them know about your concerns. I'm sure that this can be done anonymously. If it turns out that he has also got a tattoo of a SWASTIKA on his chest that will be up to him to justify.

I'm not sure about the 3 month recruiting time... There are more knowledgable people on this site who will know if this is possible.

Bovie, it's a free world. Just tell him thanks but no thanks you don't want to meet, Endex. The medics and PTIs will pick up on his little 'Badge of Honour' and treat him in the way he deserves. Don't get yourself entwined in his problems.
In the end it's all up to you.

If he gets the tattoo I'd say he can kiss goodbye to getting into the Forces or the Police or any job that requires you to have a full medical. Hopefully he will get the tattoo done then at least one nobber wont be pulling on a uniform.


P.S.
Just reread the original post. If he's already got through recruit selection no worries. First week you get another medical and they'll pick up on the tattoo. It wont be in the medical details from the selection medical so they will know it's a new tattoo and will bounce his arse out of the gate. He wont be able to claim it was a stupid thing he did years ago.

Fingers crossed he's done it already.

People like your 'ex-friend' are often found on the football terraces spouting off about how 'British' they are. The strange thing is how many British were killed trying to stamp out this sort of hatered in WW2.
If I were in your shoes I'd phone the AFCO and tell them that you have been apporoached by a person claiming to be joining HM Forces who is an out and out racists and give them his name and let them know that he claims to have a Swastika Tattoo!

Let him get the tattoo. His life will be basically over. No employer will want him and few will want to be his friend. If by any chance he did get into the Navy, chances are that he would be working alongside people from different racial backgrounds and different skin colours. He simply wouldnt survive. I wouldnt want someone like him pass me in the street never mind living and working with him.

I agree with sticky's advice. Give the AFCO a bell and see what they make of it.

Our Marine's would take him. In our Army you can only be a black racist who hates whites, this is where I learned to just avoid blacks. "I like telling you white boys what to do" "How you like taking orders from a black man" was common. Our Marine's though are primarily white and Hispanic, so you can be how you want. The Navy is self segregated and everyone is racist there, but as long as it isn't screwing up the mission so what. Your friend is rebelling or going through a phase, probably will pass. Your forces are more "Professional" than ours, so he's probably screwing himself. We had some skin heads in our last unit. I don't go out of my way to be buddy buddy with blacks, but the skinheads irritated me just as much as the black soldiers bent on getting racial revenge. Trailer park white trash or black ghetto gangster trash, you pick. It was sad really.

I'm very sad to hear about your Ex mate and his racial hatred. The sad fact is that we as former servicemen had a duty to protect the rights of tossers like him.

You'll have to get used to it, because the world is full of bigots. Luckily the world also has a good number of fair minded people like the ones you meet here. It is because the fair minded people are in the majority that we remain a stable society.

Make it plain to your ex mate that he is no longer welcome in your company, and tell him why. He will get angry, he may get violent or abusive. Whatever happens you have maintaned the moral high ground and that is what the services is all about, doing the right thing, not the easy thing

Racism is an acquired taste. I have no intension of acquiring it!

If you join the armed forces you will work with all the colours of the rainbow. Be it as your comrades or with the local populace of where the MOD send you.

Ignore these sad blinkered fools who try to tell you that White/Black/Yellow/Red/Brown is best. Just think in terms of being a human being. And do what is best. It worked for me and a lot of other people.

Since i am from bradford i know what you are talking about, i dont class myself as a racist as i have coloured friends, but i do not agree with asylum problem in the UK, if you have ever been to bradford you will know what i mean, far too many asylum seekers are living here, and the white communitys are not getting funding where-as black communitys are getting funding for new parks, community centre's etc.. , it really does piss me off and im only 16. When i get old enough to vote i will vote for the British National Party, im not a racist but they will do a better job than the tossers we have in at the moment. Maybe a little off topic but just thought id get my point across since you talked about bradford.

RDC if you're prepared to vote for a racist party like the BNP then you are complicit in their racist behaviour. You may have "coloured" friends (red, pink, green?) but any endorsement of a party like the BNP goes some way to legitimising their intolerable views.

Having said that, the more seats that the BNP wins the more pressure is placed on legitimate political parties to try and deal with the issues that those communities are concerned with. Even as a tactical vote though I could never give any kind of endorsement to the likes of the BNP. Surely there must be other "independant" candidates in the area?

As for the idea that you are being overwelmed by immigrants, I live in Tower Hamlets in London which has the distinction of being the poorest borough in the country and must have one of the highest proportions of non-whites in the country. Plenty racists round here for sure but there is more bother with the pissheads and the junkies than there is from the immigrants.
