I believe that you become a special out of "the goodness of your heart". Its not like the reserve forces where you are paid. You receive travelling expenses and that's it. You have to do something like 4 hours a week (could be more). Last time I looked into it, it was purely voluntary with no reward (financial). Some people use it as a springboard to go full-time.

Ill join but I need to know the minumum service time required. Not joining the Marines untill at least September now (after school and holiday in July). No good though if you have to serve a year or so min.
Not bothered about the pay really. 4 hrs a week isnt much and it would be interesting, plus training on the job. Could get a part time job as well. Look good on appliation form to the Marines being in the police.

I`ve got three opo`s who are specials, they do 4 hours a week, usually down the football ground, getting their heads stoved in

sounds great to me

i don`t think they get to watch the match though

Apparently you do 10 weekends of training and then are cast out on the streets alongside us regulars....As said previous its done out of 'the goodness of your heart' but you do get expenses (meals I guess?) and petrol. Other than that nowt Im afraid. Check out your local forces website or call their recruitment dept for more info.
I know my force (Beds) is crying out for specials at the moment, got regulars desperate to sign up and almost too many to handle, but they always need more specials....

There is deffinatley no way i'd do and not get paid. I could put up with that type of S**t for no money. Although you may thinking your given something back to the community, i think that they would just be taking advantage of me. Well thats just my opinion anyway. Although i would consider becoming a policeman, only if i still lived in dorset that is.
