Is that the new tool the procurement department of the MoD has bought from the North American Indians then?

We owe you, so yeah you'd win easily. Carriers, air support, Marines. You'd win, and we'd help you go into Argie land to get the oil.

And Capsar Weinberger wouldn't have to plead with Ronnie Reagan to let us use Ascension Island. :o I don't think he wanted to get involved - bless him.

Would we win that is the question. The Navy has been slashed in half since those days, The army has been reduced in size, and we seem to have less of every thing that is required to fight a war. Most of the Harriers are laid up the old assault ships are being sold off, lets face it we are like most of the other European countries we have not the strength to do any thing worth out American support.

We have lost a few ships but the ones we have now are much better protected, we also have an airbase on the island, and an SSN on patrol at all times down there, plus a few other things. I think it would be pretty easy, that's if the argies can even get to the island.

Personally I think people underestimate our ability these days, I think we have a pretty good ability to project.

We might be smaller now but we can pack a harder punch. Argentina's military has gone to the dogs and our satellite guided missiles alone would make them think twice and hit the brandy in the rat packs.

I don't know about Tony bLiar not having the balls to go to war with the Argys over the Falklands tyke, think about it he had the balls to go into probably the most politcally disliked war that the UK has ever been in.

And as we saw in the first go at it, the war in the falklands had massive public support.

I appreciate Whitey's offer of US support but it just wouldn't happen. No US President would want to go that far and upset the Latin American countries on his doorstep. That isn't to say we wouldn't get some degree of assistance from the cousins, just as we did last time (at a cost). I believe the only saving grace for the UK case is that the Argentinians are probably in a worse state than we are.

Barry C,

We still have the Monroe Doctrine #1 and are you not convinced as to the limits we'll go for oil? # 3 we owe you. The reason we don't get into it big time in S. America is because our wonder weapons suck in the jungle.

first of all: UK would win...because Argies-Land has no money, no weapons and the people no more interests.

But silly question from me: What was it worth to loose soldier' life, ships and of course money for some rocks, thousands of miles away...? For the minister it's easy to say "let's go and fight them" - he must not risk his body - but whos asked the children and wifes of the soldiers? I don't think it's right to say: that's their job - because their job is to defend their homeland. (we have the same "problem" with german soldiers in Afghanistan...)

I hope I could express my opinion in a way, that nobody feels "angry" - but thats my point of view
