I think that Mr Howard can lead the conservatives to victory. He acn sort out the party and get Mr Blair out of power. Or is this just hopeful wishing?!?!?!

He's an improement on the others. He hasn't got anything to live upto because his predecessors were carisma and characterless. No grey on Mr Howard apart from his hair... who were the ones before him... can't remember... they were, from what I remember, Grey!

Isn't he the guy who came last in the contest which IDS won? Seems more like desperation to me. No doubt the local activists will rally to the cause. But I bet, deep down, they are really peeved. For the first time in history they elected their own leader when they chose Hague. This time there's only one candidate so, in effect, the MP's have reverted to the old system where they, not the members of the conservative party, select the leader. 
I saw him a couple of weeks ago. Dimbleby asked him a question - got a reply. Asked him a second, more contentious question. He avoided it by repeating the answer he gave to the first question!?!?!? Second question repeated - same result.

For all his faults (unlike perfect me) in the same situation Blair either admits he doesn't know or says he can't say, for whatever reason.

Money talks, the benefactors to the Tories ousted IDS, this is who they wanted (Howard) in MO they deserve him, I did watch PM Question Time in the Commons yesterday though and he does seem to have a bit more character than those of recent years, but it will take something special to oust B Liar.

So how is an out and out right winger going to pull the party together. They are still deeply divided on Europe (where are Portillo and Clarke?) and have produced no real policies since getting the boot. Some of us remember 3 million unemployed ('a price worth paying@?!?!) inflation at over 20%, manufacturing industry destroyed, etc............
This is Howard's background. Are we about to see the wolf don sheep's clothing? He's got too much baggage in the hold. They needed someone who could be seen as a 'Mr Clean'. Portillo could well have done it but losing to William Hague was a gut wrencher for him which he never recovered from.

Let's face it most of them are power mad beggars, interested in one thing only. To climb to the top of the pile regardless of who they hurt. Have never met or heard one who is 100% honest in all his/her dealings. And I reckon I never will.

Anyone remember when Paxman asked him the same question 14 times in a row on Newsnight (and he still didn't get a straight answer)? It was when he was Government, he alledgely told overruled the Chief of Prisons over something or other (can't remember what) - Paxman "Did you overrule him?" ... Howard "Erm, I ..." .... Paxman "Did you overrule him?". V funny to watch him squirm!

Good debater, people mention the poll tax, but crime went down when he was in charge.

I think so to, I saw him on question time the other day and was impressed. I don't know if he's the man to win them the next election yet. But I do think they are taking a step in the right direction.may18 wrote:Good debater
