I carry both British and Norwegian citizenship.

If I was to serve in the Norwegian Army for my national service for a few years, will I still be eligible to join the British Army at a later date?

I have a British father and Norwegian mother.

Anyone got a clue about this bad boy?

As for dual citizenship it shouldn't be a problem provided it is possible to investigate your background (which in practice means that nations which have modern law enforcement and record keeping practices should be okay, but difficult for citizens of certain other nations (Brit/Russian citizen? I don't think you've got a chance of getting in..... British/North Korean? Why bother asking... Brit/Zimbabwe?).

With certain roles there will be limitations. With Int Corps for instance you need Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance. You should have held British citizenship for 10 years and CANNOT hold dual nationality. (Well 'cannot' is probably too strong, but without DV you'll be on 'Restricted' vetting and it will seriously affect your employability)

If you are looking at joining as an officer there's a potential for HQ type Staff Officer postings further down the promotion trail and even fairly low level Int material would have to be kept away from you (UK EYES ONLY or UK/US EYES ONLY caveated intel....) There's a lot of that sort of stuff around so it would probably be easier not to post you (may affect your promotion prospects if you can't do Staff posts)

Even if you're thinking of joining as a clerk in the AGC(SPS), they deal with a lot of the paperwork involved with looking after classified material and so dual nationality may be a problem.

If however you're just looking at being a regular infantry Tom or regimental officer then it shouldn't be a problem.

Well I've already been vetted and currently serving in the TA. Passed my AOSB1 as well.

I have held the citizenship for a while, soon 10 years in fact. Thanks for giving me some insight.

sportbilly are you a green slime or linked? seem very clued up ;o) . i didnt have no problems and i had german and N.ireland links, so sniff that one out. so a norgy shouldnt have any probs.

Not Int Corps but have a reasonable working knowledge of how they tick. I was RE Military Survey so did a fair number of postings at Div and Bde HQs over the years where, because our work involved producing various geo products for Staff officers, we worked with loads of very highly classified stuff in the G2 side of things. Int Corps, RE Int, RA Int and the staff clerks dealing with the classified material predominate in G2.

Anyone with dual nationality shouldn't have any problems getting into virtually any cap badge in the army. The only one where you'll be sifted out immediately would be Int Corps because of the security sensitivities. With other cap badges there may be roles where you wouldn't be able to specialise in. (RE Int, RA Int possibly) Clerks in AGC (SPS) with dual citizenship for instance would be able to work in regimental admin offices dealing with pay and postings, but would probably not be responsible for any classified. R Sigs might get a bit twitchy about where they posted you and what kit you come into contact with

Skanza shouldn't have any problems.
