Its being built because it would cost as much in financial penalties if we didn't complete it.
Mothballed means being put into "storage" ie alongside in Pompey or Guz.

Too short for the JSF.
Too long and vunerable to anti-ship Missles and aircraft as there will not be enough ships to provide screening.
Good effort Gordo,
Take a make and mend.

It appears that due to poor planning it will be a bit of floating junk. They have designed this aircraft carrier with out steam catapults or arrester wires. Now if they don't have the latest VTOL aircraft then it will just look very nice but wont be able to do any thing.

two pieces of expensive scrap with no viable ability to defend themselves. As I said above there will be no defensive escorts. The Type 45 of which eight were originally ordered only four have been laid down, and only one commisioned which due to cutbacks has an outdated arieal radar system which is easily defeated by modern offensive misille technology. So a fresh out of the box Destroyer is incabable of defending herself let alone the larger fleet vessels she was designed to protect.
"Hello is this America? we're in a spot of bother again we would be delighted if you guys could bail us out again to the tune of the sixth fleet and supporting arms plus aroumd $ 64 billion so we can pay our personel the retirement we told them they would recieve when they were dumb enough to sign on the dotted......"

It's a shame... a brilliant ship.... you could carry twice more F35 ... whereas here in france we're going to build another carrier.... you should carry on the construction... But if you actually won't the Prince of Wales sell it to us.....only if sarkozy wants so. ...

It seems not just the Royal Navy having problems with cost overruns and white elephants.

Only 5 million?
I'll take a small wager the cost will be double that
Why not.....It's only tax-payers money and there's always more of that
