Hi. Looking for some advice. My brother really wants to join the army however he was informed today that he has failed his medical. he is more than gutted. the reason they state is 'eczema'.
He had eczema as a baby but it cleared up. He is now 20 and never had it since he was about 18mths old!
however a few months ago he cut his finger at work and then it got all inflamed because some cleaning chemical had got in to it. the fingers now back to normal. we're not sure if the nurse he saw about this labelled it as 'irritant contact dermatitis'. it only happened once and it was after a cut on his finger.
he is going back to the GP to see what they wrote for his medical.
my parents were thinking about getting a private dermatologist to see him so they can examine him and see there is nothing wrong.
can my brother appeal? really wanting peoples thoughts on this.

The Army often lives rough and is out in all weathers and this can affect the skin if there is weakness then the Army will think twice before letting them join.

Yes of course you can appeal but you will need to make sure you have some kind of medical proof that the condition has improved or been treated fully (a letter from your doctor is good enough).

Tell your brother not to give up though, I had a failed medical because of my eyesight, asthma, heart murmur, wheeze and agoraphobia (I was an ill kid) and I proved that they have all disappeared, been cured and corrected and I got my medical pass 3 days after handing it in so there IS hope.
