As well as stretching, you need to make sure you're wearing the correct running shoes. Ill fitting, or just completely wrong shoes, will cause shin-splints.
Head for a specialist running store, and speak to them about the shoes you should be wearing. They'll check your pronation and ensure you are fitted with the correct shoes.

Hi liam115, these guys has thrown in some right answers to your question . You need proper shoes, Warm-down and try to do some stretching which is important b4 and after exercise e.t.c . I exprcn such during intense training sometime like : doing circuit training -press ups ,sit ups and pull ups and running 9mile under 57 minutes five times a week . Liam , try to see a specialist if it persist after at least four days rest (gap between), depends on individual it might take longer in some .....

ok so i will not go on any runs for a few days untill it stops aching and hopefully by then my new shoes will have arrived. ill try just doing pressups ans situps for a few days (need to build up my strenth anyway). hopefully if i do a few more mins warm up and cooldow it will stop the problem.
thanks for the tips guys
