Quick question

I rang my local AFCO today and they are sending out an application. How long does application process take before the physical?
I normally train once a week, but I might have to increase the amount. If I knew how long it took I could work out a training program to suit the time I have before the physical.
Thanks, RC.

I handed in my application in to my AFCO in March, start Para Depot On October 18th (Sunday, get in!!!

) And this was before it started to go really mental with recruiting, and an application from Ireland may take a bit longer!
So you have a while to get fit mate!

Cheers for the reply and congrats. So its a 5 to 6 month time frame with the first physical coming in some time before then. This gives me some time.
Nice one.

I started my application in december last year, went for ADSC in June, start basic in January. Apparently recruitment is taking longer now because of more applicants but I'd say you're looking at about 5-6 months.

Cheers thanks, I am expecting the application in the post this week, just tried a few press ups, never really do them while training. I read somewhere that you got to be able to do 44 in two minutes, I've just done 44 in around 46 seconds.
Am I right in thinking 44 press ups in 2min along with 50 sit ups in 2min some pull ups/heaves and a 1.5 run under something like 10 mins?
Anything else I have missed out on would be great to know.

What are you applying for?
RAF Reg is 40 press ups in a min, 41 sit ups in a min and 2.4km run in 10:30.
Cheers.

I haven't fully decided which job yet, its the Royal Irish Regiment. I am interested in infantry but I am waiting to talk to my AFCO to see which jobs have gaps in recruitment, to speed up the application process.

Terrible idea mate, you don't want to have that kind of mentality. Choose a job you're going to be happy with. You don't want to go for a job that gets you in quicker and then hate the next couple of years. You're going to be waiting a while anyway if you haven't filled the application out. In the time it takes to get everything done you're wait could be over anyway.

Its hard to say what I mean on this, I have some preferences in mind but I would like to first know which preferences have a good application time frame.
I am over the average enlist age so I would like to make it into my chosen job and be part part of the action in a time frame suited to my age.
If I am selected the last thing I want to do is commit myself to something I may not enjoy.
Thanks for the tips.
