A civilian is only entitled to 24 days of paid holiday a year, and employers can include Bank Holidays in that total. But as a soldier you'll get 30 days' annual leave, plus public holidays. There are extra days off available if you face long travel times, such as returning to the UK from abroad, and all the regular benefits – compassionate leave, maternity and paternity leave – you'd expect from any civilian employer. Looking ahead, after 12 years' service you qualify for an additional four weeks leave a year – all told, that's nearly a week off every month.
Operational rewards
Serve a six-month operational tour and you'll be granted an immediate additional 20 days' leave. And if those operational demands mean you haven't been able to take your full annual entitlement you can carry up to 15 days over into the next leave year – an unheard-of concession in civilian life.
Sounds to good to be true.

It is too good to be true
An extra 4 weeks a year after 12 years service???????
Its 4 weeks in total to be taken within three years.
Carrying days over???? 15 days can be carried over but if you dont use them then you lose them

.....and everything depends on operational needs.

I get 33 days holiday a year.
The wife 40.5 days a year.

Don’t get me wrong I think the Army has come a long way with accommodation etc, lets leave the kit in Afghanistan aside.
.....but I don’t like it when they try to sell something that is not there. Its not fair on the young men and woman who want to join.

Just a little question while your here.
Person joins at 18 and does 22 years. Leaves on 40th birthday. What reason would a NCO be able to stay on after the 22. Just interested as I was reading about people who were still serving at 45 etc..

We now have Veng or versatile Engagement which gives you another 2 years ie 24 years total, after this the Army may offer you 5 year blocks until the age of 55. then its out you go lol.
Im nearly at my 22 year point and trust me its more than enough.
Have taken my extra two years but dont think Im going to take it!

How would this work, with your Regiment or recruitment?
Is this dependant on Army needs i.e. you could be turned down?

Yes you can be turned down. It depends on a whole load of things ie Rank/CRs/medical status/Job that sort of thing
