Work permit restrictions won't allow me to join the regular army ... so it has to be reserve until I am able to work unrestricted in the UK ...
So, for now, it's TA, but in Jan 2011 when I can apply for ILR, I will be joining the Regular Army.

oh right, aren't you South African?
a girl I met at ADSC is from SA and she was told she can join the regulars, but not as student nurse I don't know why but they apparently said was to because of her nationality

Correct, I am a saffa. I don't think it's an issue with nationality, as the requirement is that anyone non-EU that wants to join, must be from a commonwealth country, which SA is. And, they must have lived in the UK for a minimum of 5 years! Anyone on a visa or permit, needs to have at least 12 months validity left on it .... so I don't think nationality should be an issue. :D
Having said that though, I may be blowing smoke out of my @rse, as things have changed since I first researched all of this ...

Not at all. I guess it depends on the validity of her student visa or something, more than applying for the actual nursing position.

Best of luck to her either way, and of course, to you too!
