Sorry for the Bill Shakers quote,
but as I have your attention,
should we allow txt.spk.or not?
I personally find it annoying and unnecessary.
It's an easy option for cell phone users but for those of us who learned English with a whack on the knuckles from an English master with a large steel ruler I find it increasingly difficult to comprehend.
Terms and conditions on this forum dis-allow txt.spk.
Should we move with the times?
I don't think so.
What do you think?

It's a lazy way of communicating, shows alack of respect for the people who have to read it.Useful method for mobile phones, but otherwise,no.

I admit it is lazy, but when you are at work and not supposed to be on military forums for the best part of the day sometimes it's easier and quicker to abbreviate

I'd say don't allow it.
As a member of a great police forum where text talk is banned, as it's very annoying and lazy to read, I suggest you disallow it!
It takes a few second to type the full, correct word ... why ruin a beautiful language by shortening to some letters that most (in fairness) don't understand. I certainly get lost with text talk, and stop reading if I come across it ..

Do not allow it. On here nothing is rushed, pressured or pushed. You have the time to make the correct - or as near as - effort to get your opinion or point of view across. Using text speak lowers the tone, in my opinion. Fair enough I will admit not all of have grasped or mastered the full use of written English, but it doesn't hurt to try. By trying, you are improving! Besides sometimes when I read 'text speak' - in its extreme case I form the opinion that I am dealing with a Burberry clad, gangly teenager that I see outside loitering on the streets. He is normally the one gobbing off to passing folk from behind his mates - yet in reality he is a skinny streak of nothing, who had to run about in a shower in order to get wet! NO TXT SPEAK.

I have never TXT any one and have no desire to do so, while on these forums why not use the language as it is meant to be used.

English is English, simple. This is a forum where "everyone" should be able to read and understand what is being said.

If your working on a computer at work that has a full QWERTY keyboard, there's no excuse.
It wont be tolerated here, this isn't a bebo, facebook or some other type of social networking website for ill slang minded peeps.
Its for members willing to find full advice, help each other and for others to spill the dit's etc.
If you want to join HM Armed Forces, then brush up on your Admin!
Sure your going to have the odd spelling mistake or your grammar isn't 100%, we wont correct you for that.
Just keep it normal... then again what is normal these day.

Just keep your short hand txt talk for the mobile!

I'm on the NO flank too.
English usage is becoming lazy enough as it is without encouraging it.
