I tried this on the Para section this morning though haven't exactly been innundated so far.

Here goes: would anyone like a penpal?
I'm a friendly, affable girl more than happy to write to a marine. :D

I'd love to but me missus would kill me

Are you after writing to someone whose serving away? Whilst not inundated with these sort of letters, there's generally a few floating around each squadron/company in theatre, and anyone who wants to can write back to strike up a conversation. They are much appreciated and a source of morale, and I know of a couple of strong friendships (and one romance) that started like this. You used to be able to just address a letter to 'A Marine' or whatever, c/o a BFPO in theatre. I believe now all letters of that type have to be addressed to someone specific, so you may be best off trying somewhere like forcespenpals, or I think the Sun run a similar scheme. Have a Google. There's not too many actually serving on here, and those that are don't generally pop in so much whilst they're away! Incidentally, it may help to give an idea of your age, as a 20yr old sprog probably won't have much in common with an 'older' woman, and vice versa.

26 yr old brunette, you didn't ask for hair colour did you lol :D

Thank you for your suggestions. Though tbh I've tried the options you mentioned - The Sun - sent afew letters only to have them returned to me unopened, as i think those chaps on The Sun's list are no longer on tour.
Forcespenpals - also on there, though many seem to be after PURELY illicit chat via msn.

So if anyone knows of anyone serving (a marine or otherwise) i'd be happy to write via snail mail or e-mail. Thank you all!

A perfectly nice seeming young lady asks if anyone would like a penpal and you lot start in on the"who's better than who"thing again.
Makes me wonder what your average age is.
I'm nearly twelve(eleven and three quarters)but I have more engaging trapping lines and they do not involve third degree burns and shovels :P

You're better off staying away from that lot, I can't think of anything more disapointing then being a penpal with the Reg - a load of monosyllabic words written with a half eaten crayon, hardly a thrilling read.

With Royal on the other hand you can expect an articulate emotional rollercoaster of a ride with every letter!

Wholley Im sure she is a dazzling vision of un paralelled beauty and all that, with the personality of mother teresa, but for all we know 'she' could be a prop forward from wigan called Nigel feeling a bit lonely and wanting some company - in which case Royal can have her on the 'rollercoaster'...

Put an ad in Soldier Magazine (for Soldiers!) www.soldiermagazine.co.uk
email hshekyls@soldiermagazine.co.uk or write to them for details enclosing an SAE:
Soldier Magazine
Ordnance Rd
Aldershot
Hants
GU11 2DU

I'm sure the other forces have their own mag's with a similar penpal feature.

Thanks for all your input. :D
Other than a photo not sure how else i can prove i am not a 'Nigel' lol

By all means Timecop, do keep me in mind. Soldier magazine - investigated, it seems i'd have to pay to advertise for a penpal & being alittle short on cash that doesn't appeal.
