Just wondering, are these the US equivalents to our forces: Army Infantry=US Marines, Royal Marines=Navy SEAL, SAS=Delta Force. anybody?

I think it's more like:

The British Army Infantry = US Army infantry

The Navy seals are SF, but I suppose you could compare them to the Royal Marines.

I'm probably wrong, thats just how I thought it goes...

Ah right. I find all really interesting as to which group is used for which jobs/missions, both UK and US.

Can you expand on that? Just for those of us that are less knowledgeable.

US Marines are no were near as fit or well trained as out Paras or Marines for that matter. As you first said comparing them to our regular forces they are only a bit better on the fitness site but thats about it. Don't confuse the US Marines to the Green Berets which are/was one of Americas special forces.

Yeah I kinda had an inlcing that the US marines were no where near a match for our marines, so I just wondered where they fitted in as our UK forces structure is pretty straight forward and efficient.

The US operate on a far grander scale than ourselves; it's generally held across all three arms that British training is (by far) superior, though the Yanks (sorry Wholley...he'll be along in a minute 8) ) are better equipped...though that gap is closing.

This is getting dangerously close to the"Who's better than Who"Debate which has been done to death on this forum.
The Royal Marines operate in an entirely different way to the USMC.
Although the services were both originally designed for the same purpose after WW2 the Royal Marines took on the exclusive role of"Commados"Whereas the USMC retained a"Force projection"Role.
There is no point in attempting to compare the two services.
Navy Seals are just that,NAVY,not Marines. They were raised from the UDT of WW2 for a specific purpose which has expanded over the years.
There do exist elements of the USMC who are as well trained as the Royal Marines(Marine Recon.comes to mind)Plus since the war of 1812 the two services have become brothers in arms. The Korean war well illustrates the comradeship.Look up Chosin Reservoir where you will find 41(Ind)Cdo. fighting alongside the 1st Marine Division.
