Hello everyone. Made a few posts already on other forums but thought I would formally introduce myself on here. I'm currently about to express my interest down at AFCO next week in Middlesbrough with regards to being a RAF Reg Gunner, had no time to pop in recently so finally managed to book a day off work to get down there and hopefully get the cogs turning. This site has been a cracking tool for finding out information about the application process and people's opinions on a load of subjects so cheers.

Nah mate about 20 odd miles south, small town called Thirsk. Middlesbrough is my nearest AFCO though, don't much fancy going that bit further to Leeds. What you wanting to do in the forces then?

Yeah i know where Thirsk is. I`m applying to be an Observation Post Assistant in the Royal Artillery, Army. It says in the job description theres a chance to volunteer to work with paras and commamdos so hoping to do that.

Cheers Tom. Sounds cracking that mate, if you get to volunteer to work with them too then that's an added bonus. I can't wait to get down AFCO and finally get some dates to look forward to.

Are you going to go for II squadron?

Well I think that's going to be by 2nd choice for obvious reasons along with the other Honington squadrons after but don't think my girlfriend would forgive me if I didn't put 34 squadron as my 1st choice cause they're based at Leeming. I could always just say I put it as my first choice, but I have a conscience you see. I'm one of them softies.

Cheers beast. Yeah this place is a revelation. Felt compelled to donate to the cause too due to the help i've received. Maybe every member should donate a quid and then that target would be blown out of the water.

I was going to go for RAF Reg myself but changed my mind for my own reasons. But if I had gone for RAF Reg would deffo have gone for II squadron. Have actually been thinking about changing my 1st choice to Paras but not sure as if i get in as an OP then i`ll get chance to work with Paras anyway, will give it a bit more thought while im waiting for my interview.

No problem Beast. Yeah well if you carry on doing what you're doing then you have the best of both worlds in a way. But working with the Paras and being a Para is two different kettles of fish as you know so just do what the old heart tells you.
