Getting the forum back on track (advertising)

I am going to try and get this forum back to how it used to be in the days when I joined up, everyone mostly friends and always having a laugh, some great men and women were on here (some remain) and when everyone used to take the micky out of the kids who used to come on in the summer holidays thinking they were getting into the SAS cause they could get ready in less than 4 minutes .

Anyway onto my devine plan I have asked if I can be put in "charge" of the news area to get it regulary updated like it used to be and am going to donate some money soon to keep the running costs covered aswel.

I have also seen that the sites visits has gone down gradually and we need to turn this around and with the sites renwal date in May I want to give Admin/Beast a reason to pay the renwal money :).

I am going to do a bit of advertising on my part (if I have permission) and was wondering is there any banners etc kicking around for advertising the site or am I ok to make one? I also want everyone else who values this forum to do the same, on social sites, other forums in there 'advertise you site' area etc.

Cheers

There is quite a lot of Mrmy/Military groups on facebook, im a member on a couple of the royal anglian ones. maybe these would also be a good place to advertise this site to serving soldiers and to recruits. would take a bit of searching on there though as there is some naff groups, also im not sure about the rules of advertising on there.

Also how about speakin to some of the Military surplus and equipment stores (www.army-surplus.org.uk ect ect ect) about advertising on there sites.

just a couple of suggestions :)

Thanks mate already got a Facebook, Bebo and Myspace group idea and will set them up soon as I get permission from the Admin that allows me too. I did'nt think about other sites but I am sure they would want money for us to advertise on there site.

Thanks alot for the suggestions, I will need all the help I can get to make this site what it once was :).

Cheers

Good on you Tom. I have got a fair bit of good information from here and it would be a shame to see it go under.

I can't really help much but if there is anything I can help with drop me a PM. That is if Beast/Admin allow it

May be out of my depth here as i know nothing about how websites are run, but maybe a deal could be done with other sites, as in they give this site free advertising and vice versa.

Again not sure about this as i know nothing on website admin, creation advertising ect. :)

I will have a look into it mate, I know a few site owners who may be able to help out. But most sites require you to help pay for them to display banners etc.

I've spoken to Beast about how I feel :(

I would be very upset to see the forums go belly up but unfortnately we'll really need to pick things up now before things get better.

In my opinion, there is some very positive fresh contributers on the site. This thread is an example.

Often shouted down or told to wind their necks in, for what reason?

Any question asked, is surely deserved of a sensible reply or what on Earth is the point.

There are a selection of people ruining this site and it is not the newbies, it's the unbelievably, childish, arrogant oldies. With exception, you know who you are

I'm gutted that certain parts of the site had to be demolished due to lack of confidence between long term members. I miss old members, Sticks, Harry, Bootneck to name but 3. It's turned into a childish bitch fest.

I've been a member for years and feel intimidated to post for fear of a slating.

Speaking of getting the forum on the right track, I think an FAQ would be usefull, with all the most aked questions there alongside correct answers to prevent lots of repetion.

I know there is at least one member of this forum (well there were) who is a recruiter who could provide 100% correct infomation but if they will do it is a differnt matter.

I agree with what you have said 100% and I am going to try my hardest to get it back as it was or just as good.

Great idea, I think you ment MSI64 who was the recruiter. If we do get a FAQ up and running a bit further down the line and he has'nt dissapeared if we ask him nicly he may give us some correct info to what ever questions we put in it. :)

All ideas like this are welcome and providing the mods and admin are open to suggestions aswel.

ER,

Well said.
I've been a member for years and feel intimidated to post for fear of a slating.
That is not the way it should be. Open, honest and robust debate/discussion (in a lighthearted sort of way), without fear or risk of being verbally abused is my preferred option.

It's a bit pointless having a discussion forum where discussion is not allowed or is discouraged.

Must shoot. I have some hard debating to do.

OWK.
