Hey all, just a quick question.

If an individual was to join the army as a private, is there a maximum rank he can rank up to or can he go to any rank?

And the same question about starting as an officer and ranking up.

If you go into the Army as a Pvt you can also apply for a commission from the ranks and progress on to an officer.

As above. The highest you can progress without applying for and gaining a Commission is Warrant Officer Class I. Officer's don't have a career cap as such, although attainable rank may be restricted by the Arm or Branch one takes; in that case, to go beyond that, you'd have to transfer (which I guess is pretty unusual once you're that high) or take a staff job.

I see, I all ways thought their was a limit kind of.

I now there is high respect for either rout (In as an officer or in as a PVT) but what would you guys think personally, would have the highest respect and knowledge?

PVT - Officer - More knowledge/more respect or vice verser or the same?

To anyone outside the Forces, of course it looks far better to have a Commission.

Inside the Forces I wouldn't like to comment on how the ranks generally view things; certainly in the Corps there is a mutual respect for both, though naturally Orificers command more due to their position.

Often you'll find that as a lower rank you'll have to work to gain respect; as an Officer you have to be careful not to lose it.
