I no views on here maybe a bit biast but what should i go for ive passed all the interviews an tests my medical and eyetest for the marines but recently i have been drawn to the paras, what is your opinion on what i should join.

Really our opinion means squat as to what you want to do, all we can do is list good and bad points and get no where, You should really do some research on each and see what one tickles you're pickle. It's 100% you're choice on what you do so you should be making it you're self.

Im biast mate, I say Para Regt. My dad was a para and thats who i want to join so... One of my dad's mates mentioned that Para Regt have got to compete against 22 other regiments (dont' no if theres still 22) to be the best in the army, and the marines have got nothing. They get taught cr*p and it keeps going round in a cycle, but Para's will say that lol

For me, just looking at the maroon beret gives me buttierflies. The Parachute Regiment Quotes are also inspiring

i wanna be on the front line though are paras on the front line? and does any one know the eyesight requirements

Billy you should really research the regiment you want to join, it doesn't take long, Yes Paras are front line, so are the marines.. really go to the MOD websites and read up about both.

Whatever flicks your switch........ Scared of heights? Go for Marines…
Hydrophobic? Go for Paras..........

However, the long term survival of The Parachute Regiment as an individual unit is far less certain than the Marines, as it’s extremely unlikely that there will EVER again be a large scale airbourne assault on ‘the enemy’ involving hundreds of fighting troops jumping out of planes, dangling beneath parachutes, before crashing to the ground and engaging.

It may be great for showboating or for military displays/Arnhem Anniversaries, but in reality it’s far too risky and it can no longer be considered a safe delivery method for getting large numbers of ‘bods on the ground’.

AirMobile troops, being taken forward by Chinooks etc to engage the enemy, will be the default deployment method and it won’t be too long before some MOD bean-counter suggests (again) that cost savings can be made by scrapping the need to train troops to jump out of planes. They only need to jump off the back ramp of the Chinook and that doesn’t need para wings.

Still, if this classic Youtube clip is anything to go by, even amphibious assault can have it’s problems........

Perhaps if the MOD bean counter has seen this, he’ll scrap the Marines and get us to catch a bus to the battlefield......

Mate, i was in the same boat as you, i was in the process for the Marines. I had a slight change of mind, in my view the paras are more of a family and my mate who is a Marine said he would rather be next to para then anyone..

Do your research ive got alot of knoledge about the Marines im just flicking through the history and training about the paras, i feel the paras are more demanding. This is my own opinion...

I see everyone has mentioned para's and marines and these are the only 2 he as spoken about. there is alot of front line jobs to choose from not only these 2 :|

These 2 units are classed as elite, so yea people will want to be a Marine or a Para more then anything.
At first i wanted to apply for the Light Gun, but doing alot of research and training and this is what i want to do now..

hello billy mate! Am the same i was always for the marines, then obe day i was drawn to them and then decided to look in to them. After reading about them and being impressed, i went to afco and from the word go they showed 100% interest in me. My adviser in afco is a para and has been great with my process. he is given me top advice all the time and ahve recently been out for a drink with him and paras from arnhem to afghanistan!! The marines just kept talkin about themselves and there green lid. Para reg is the one i think mate. Like you said its like a family orintated regiment!!!

I used to think that sas where classified as elite but it seems if someone believes its the correct regiment For example Para's and Marines. that makes it elite too.

Billy have you looked into any other regiments? Have you looked into any regiments at all!?

Some regiments do more parades than others etc. Some you learn more skills, different weapons and munitions...

Alot of people are telling you Para's is the way to go. That may be correct for them but is it correct for you?

My interview was with a bloke from 2 Para, he said who would birds rather go with. A Sh*tty Fusilier or a Para lol

Mate if you want to join up, join the best. That either be Para Regt or Marines, in my mind its the Paras all the way.

Go on one of them insight courses mate which the Paras do, that might help you out.

You might want to look at joining a regiment that has a trade outside of the army, you can't be a soldier forever, think very wisely about what you want to join.
