Am i right in suggesting that if you serve within the 1 rifles, you can at some stage go on to do the all arms cammando course? If so what happens once you complete this?

From what I have gathered from my cousin who at Catterick doing exactly that, you do 26 weeks at Catterick, followed by 6 weeks at CTCRM, Lympstone. He won't be able to do the AACC in time before he is off to Afghan, which means he is joining one of the other Rifles company until he has done the AACC, which is mandatory (I think) to serve as part of 1 Rifles.

I may be wrong however.

sure im correct, but anyone in the Armed Forces can do All Arms commando. but i thought it was 9 weeks not 6?

i take it you plan on doing all arms then? i was thinking of doing that sometime during my RAF career.

Technically correct yes, however there has to be a reason for someone to be accepted onto the All Arms Course and a place for them to benefit and fit into 3 Commando Brigade after they have done it. There are not many RAF personel who will offer the Corps much, hence not many have do the AACC as far as im aware. Its mostly for guys who end up going to 29Commando or 59Commando, ranks that are attached to and serve with the RM.

im going into RAF as MT, wasnt aware u had to find out wether your trade you do would be suited. as not much info is given on All arms commando. but thanks anyway

Yes im hoping to do the AACC at some stage, not too sure how this comes about though? May get the chance straight after training?
Saying that i have to pass the ADSC yet, and then the training so will wait and see.

Anyone else looking to do the AACC, or anyone who may have already done the course?

Ive got to ask, if your planning and hoping to do the AACC from the off why arent you just joining the RM?

Ive looked at many infantry roles, and also the RM, but so far the rifles looks the most appealing (coming from the southwest and all).
But i also realise that although the rifles is a very tough part of the infantry, it is not the hardcore or "elite" compared to say the paras or RM.
And at some stage i would like to try out one of these routes, then possibly look at SF or private security work.

Any thoughts on this?

My thoughts would be see how you get on getting into a infantry unit and having some experience in combat first before you plan on becoming a SF sniper who has a part time job as the body guard for the president of the U.S.A type thing

If you have dreams of being SF then I'd say nothing wrong with aiming high... but one step at a time.

It seems to me like you want to do everything... infantry unit... then RM/Paras....then SF/ private security work I'd personally say make you're mind up what you want from the Military and go for it.

This is all coming from someone who has no experience in the military, and i know there are better qualified people out there but it's just how i view things.

Yea SF sniper, and a part-time body guard for the commander and chief, was the kinda thing i was looking at,

well i got my ADSC on mon, so hopefully pass that, then have a good few years with the rifles.....

And Stokey's got a weekend at no 6.

So you want to join the Rifles then maybe do a year with the Marines. Followed by one with the Para‘s while doing a sniper carda. Then leave and do 5 years with the French Foreign Legion, return and join the SAS while training to guard the new President. At the same time doing acting lessons to replace Tom Cruise in the next big movie. Yep sounds alright to me.


By the way mate remember to put your order in for your own personal weapon, ask you section corporal for the catalog and don’t except anything but a two bedroom house as your training accommodation and demand every week end off from the Platoon Commander you tell the cock what’s what.

After ive done the rifles, marines, paras, foriegn legion, and sas, im off on a covert mission to find bin laden, anyone else wanna join me? ill split the reward money 50/50. Keep it secret though

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's 1 Rifles who have been attached to 3 Cdo Bde (I really should know these things). In which case, I do not believe that at present all (or probably many) of their ranks are Commando trained, as they were shifted across to make a fourth maneuvre unit pretty quickly (well, quickly in terms of how long it takes these things to happen). However I believe the end goal is to get all ranks through the All Arms course...this will take several years though, course places are limited and that's quite a few blokes to get through! You may well be right in terms of all new recruits being put through the course almost as an extension of their training.

This is all speculation and hearsay so don't quote me...btw the AAC has dropped from I believe 8 weeks to 6, although candidates are expected to arrive at a higher state of fitness/readiness than previously.
