Someone just posted on my previous thread that the TG course is going up to 32 weeks in April? I don't believe this to be true but if anyone can shed any light on it I'd be grateful?

This would make it the same as Royal Marines training the longest in the world!

Why?

Thank you.

Hi mate,
I've got my TG course on the 20th of April and I was told when I was on my PGAC that the 32 weeks are due to the fact that after you pass out at 22 weeks and earn your mudguards, you then have an extra 10 weeks which is your field gunners course in which you earn all your vehicle licences, extra training etc, before you will be posted with your designated squadron

Hope that helps

Yes, that's correct. As everyone is field now, with the demise of GBAD, it made sense to just add the extra training required to achieve CR status onto the end of the TG course. No need to come back later and you will be of use to your unit immediately.

As hg17 says you still Grad at 22 weeks.

Keep safe now.

That is correct the TG course is now 29 weeks long but you still pass out at week 22. I passed my PGAC last week and I'm going to be starting the TG course on the 20th of April.

In regards to the TG course being increased to 32 weeks, well you never know as the regiment is going through a big overhaul at the moment

How many weeks for God's sake.

Fellas. The TG Course is split into 5 distinct phases. A foundation phase which is for the first 4 weeks and then a further 7 weeks to complete phase 1 training. At this point you are officially in the RAF. There is then 11 weeks of phase 2 training until you graduate into the Regiment. Following this there is a weeks leave and then a further 5 weeks of training which culminates in a 3 week live firing package that includes LMG, UGL & GPMG. This is a total of 29 weeks. The final aspect is 2 weeks worth of Bowman signals training, then driver training and finally a week of key skills. The signals and key skills are required so that you get NVQs. This would see a total of about 35 weeks in training. However, this is the same as many other methods of entry, we simply string it all together so we can send you to your first sqn as emplyable as possible. Hope this all helps.
