Pull-Ups

I was just wondering where every-one does their pull-ups? I can't find any where to do mine, I was thinking about buying one from the internet but they are quite expensive and since im only 15 I don't exactly have enough money. I was thinking could I just use a tree, it would be the same as doing it on an actual pull-up bar right??

All comments welcome

Tree is fine, just make sure its level or you'll develop one muscle more than the other which'll just make people think "he must w#%k with his right arm"

Or one of them high gates would do, the ones you get in carparks or perhaps a swing set at the local park, that'll do just dandy as well.

Improvise.

A tree, local football goalposts (if there are any about), your local park with climbing frames or swings, a bit of scaffolding, a broom across the back of a couple of chairs (make sure the chairs can take the weight though). It's all out there if you have the time to look for it.

As long as you can hang with your feet off of the floor and you practise good form on your reps, I can't see the problem. You're still working your mind and muscles.

All the best.

Try one of these mate. You just fit them on any door frame, I have one and they're great and £7.97 isn't that expensive.

I use a thick broom handle across my loft hatch. It works a treat and has got me from a PB of about 3 to a PB of 14 within a few months of doing 2 sets per day to failure, 5 days per week.

I'm 15 and I just go to the park when all the younger kids have gone in (like 9 - 10PM) And just do them on the firemans pole thing :P
the bar above swings, easy peasy :D

I can do like 16 now :D

Haha surely only tiny little borrowers can swing from a chairs height AJ I mean most people are tall enough to sit on them

Yes just buy a pull-up bar from Argos mate, I couldn't do one before, and now I do about 15-17. Just every time you get in from running do as many as you can, or if you're doing a circuit do pull ups straight after. Also try holding on with arms straight, then counting for 5/10 seconds, then go half way up and count, then get your chin above the bar and count, then do the same on the way down, that helped me.

Does that Argos chin up bar screw into your doorway - does it leave big holes or anything permenant in your doorway?

No, don't own one my self but I’ve got a mate who has one and it leaves no marks or holes what so ever, I find them quite tough to use being tall 'ish' and me mate house having not very high or wide doors, but better than nothing!

Most annoying thing is that my garage (where I have my bench and do various upperbody circuits) is quite old and roof quite low so there's no place for a chin-up bar there. Have to go in my bedroom doorway, do a few everytime I go in and out.
Is this Argos one the one your mate's got then?
