I know you get 4 rail warrants per year at CTC but I was wondering what the crack was with getting a forces rail card when in training?~

Is it at all possible because I can imagine using the train more than 4 times.

The Forces Railcard should be available to all regular personnel (including recruits).

They used to be free, but I think they cost 15 pounds a year now. It's still worth getting one though, as they give up to a third off the cost of a ticket.

Yep they normally get given to you after a few weeks, but if you want it earlier or the training team forget, you can go to the movements office and get one done, takes 5 mins and you get a third off.

Free in training, £10 or £15/yr after that.

Make sure when you go to the movements office in HQ you also take a passport photo as well.

Alright mate,

Ithink you only get 3 travel warrants a year, not 4 unfortunately. And yeah, you get given a rail card in week 11-ish.
All the best,

Jonno

I'm in week 6 of training and I've already been given my rail card. We were given ours in about week four. We also got told you get 4 rail warrants a year, Christmas, Easter, summer and a spare one. Our Sergeant said to try and keep that for when we get posted to our unit but you can use that when ever you want. Two lads in my troop used theirs for their long weekend after families day.

Four per year for your first three years, you can use them whenever you like (although as a nod without your own transport it makes sense to keep them for leave). You can either take them as rail warrants or claim fuel back at around 22p/mile.

As a nod you're not allowed you're own transport at CTC, however (when I was there at least) the Nutwell Lodge just down the road was quite happy to make a 'special arrangement' with you for the use of their parking facilities. Just don't like your training team catch you  In fact, if anyone wants a motorcycle cover, mine's probably still buried in the bushes at the far back right corner, didn't have enough space on me bike to take it when I left
