I ask this because I'm 16 I've applied to join the Rifles I'm at the medical stage...with any luck my selection will be soon. I want to join the Marines but it took me so long to sort my app out for the Army I'm just wondering how long it will take to get to the stage where its my PRMC. What I was thinking was...join 1 Rifles (Attached to 3 Cmdo.) for about 4 years then switch over to RM. College isn't going to well I've quit that and I need something more active rather than...Engineering. To be honest it's a boring life at college. I'm going to the careers office on Wednesday to discuss this further with my recruiter, just wanted to know what you all thought. Any advice is welcomed.

What I mean is...how long will it be before I can go for PRMC? I'm fit enough to pass the tests and my mental strength will hold through the tests.

Mile 1/2 - 9.15
Presups - 65 (2mins)
Situps - 75 (2mins)
Full Pullups - 4

First off mate anyone with a green beret didn't just wander into it they wanted it, lived for it, I'm gonna give me girlfriend up after 18 months for this and I have no certainty of making it!

Hi I've just completed and passed a PRMC and there was one guy who had roughly the same scores as you but they failed him and he passed every test because he wasn't right for the corps, so dont think just because you have these scores you will pass.

The determination tests are set out to bring every one to there quitting level no matter how fit you are that's what this test is for to see if you give so you have got to want it a lot be willing to take pain for it through out the PRMC you will be thinking I could just quit and be in the Rifles so jus be careful of that mate.

On the other hand I could be completely wrong and you could smash it with them scores so from application to PRMC takes 2 to 3 months this includes :

Phsycometric Tests
Interview
Eye Test
Medical
Pre Joining Fittness Test 1.5 Miles In Sub 10:30min
PRMC

Its Sub 10min now, I have mine coming up.

Why not just join the Corps in the first place fella?

Come to think of it so was mine but you definitly have 10.30 at the PRMC

Guess its one of those things that i need now! As in a job something to do, I really do want the Green beret but i got F00ked around so much with the Army I just dont want that happening with the Marines. I want it so bad i would cut my left ball off for this. As soon as they give me the chance to do any of these tests I'm going to go at it with everything show them that I really do want it. Reading posts on here has really motivated me for this not that I needed it just that little umf. Another question...anyone on here who's 16 and joining the Marines? Just so I know that there are others like me.

The AFCO in my area was quite good. I sent my ACLO form off in mid-September, recived the application form for service in Her Majesty's Armed Forces about two weeks later. I sat the physcometric in early October, and I belive there was a POC in December.

However, it could all be down to how many forms in your area have to be processed, when the dates for tests are etc, that could have dragged yours out a little. Even though I screwd up the physcometric and can't take it for 6 months, there is still a chance of me doing a POC and AIB after that, meaning I can get in the YO 08 batch. So from my experiance is was quite quick. Was there anything on your application that could have held it up? This could also have been a reason.

On your second point, you have to really want to be a Royal Marine. Enough said really. Hope it goes well for you.

The thing that annoyes me about some people on this site, is that they think that they can pick and chose to join the Marines and have a Green Beret..

It is not bloody easy! it takes pain and discomfort beyond anything you ever knew possible.

Join the Royals if you want a challenge and pride of earning the Green Beret.

OR the Rifles if you want a easy(er) way into the forces.

What I want is a challenge, A real challenge physically and mentally! That's why I'm choosing the Marines.

How come they failed him if you don't mind me asking? Just curious, not panicking in case the same happens to me

Think he means, the guy failed because he didnt want it enough.

-I was on the same prmc and I think I know who Tomclarke is talking about.

Basically they pinged him as having a bit of an attitude from the begining. Gave some of the Cpl's dirty looks when he was asked to do something etc. He then kept f'n up on Gym Test 2 by not listening to instruction etc. He was a fit lad and a decent bloke, just a bit immature at the moment.

Yer I think they call that 'untrainable' or something, like if you keep getting your left and rights wrong then its al noted down.
