Hi I had my RAF selection interview earlier today to join as a Regiment Gunner the interviewer told me the interview went well and I knew what I was talking about. During my interview the topic turned to drugs and I admitted to having been to Amsterdam 3 months ago and trying cannabis, I mentioned it was the first and only time I had used it and I am now against drug use. Because it had been within the last 12 months I couldn't take my medical because they needed to ask Cranwell if I could progress. I was wondering what you think my chances are of progressing to the next stage of selection? Cheers Al P

Whoops! That was a bit of a faux pas, wasn't it?

I think they're realists though, and are aware that many applicants have experimented with drug use at least once. The fact that you were honest about it, will probably stand you in good stead though.

Sorry to go off topic here, but what was your interview like (questions wise)? I have my interview on Wed 31st... I'm somewhat nervous.

They basically go over your answers in the recruitment questionairre you filled in such as; What clubs your were involved in at school and out of school etc. Then I got asked about where the RAF are operating and where they are based and other smiliar questions. Don't worry just be yourself.

Just got a call by my interviewer and I now have a second selection interview booked in for Monday with a person of higher rank, to see if I can prove myself worthy of joining.

Got a call this morning to book my medical for Wed afternoon, could somebody please tell me what to wear and take with me and if the medical involves a dental check?

I had shirt and jeans on and the medical was a hearing/sight test really and a test to see if I had any broken bones (I think that's what that was ) I didn't have any dental stuff.

The medical involves sight, hearing tests and a medical questionnare.

Then the doctor will have a good look over your body (everything by the way).

I would reccomend going cleanly shaven and in tracksuite bottoms and a t-shirt. (smart though).

I wouldn't worry to much about admitting to trying Cannabis. I have once, and admitted it in my Gunner interview last week and passed. I think as long you were honest, it was just once and you now have zero tolerance on drugs they will probably be "OK" with it.
