The bloke taking my test was an ex grenadier guard so he knew his stuff. He put the treadmill at 15km/h for the first 3 mins then 16km/h for the remainder of the run. Its not that hard to be honest, but you get quite hot because your indoors so take a drink with you. Your not aloud to touch the controls or touch the hand rails because they will fail you. I would recommend a trail run on a treadmill prior to your test just for some experience.

You're not allowed to touch the treadmill!? So do you have to tell the instructor when you want to go faster?

I was fine to change the speed myself, but obviously you can't go holding on to the rails.

Nope i couldnt even touch the controls. I suppose you can ask him to put the speed up. He asked me if i had been doing any training so i think he had a rough idea of how fit or unift i was before.

I've heard this from a few people on this forum, getting under 9 mins. When I did my pjft I had it on 16k/p/h for the whole time round and I got something like 9.15. Did they let you build up speed before starting the test or somehing? Or maybe it's just a different make of treadmill. :-?

Well he said to me that he was gonna put it up to 15km/h for the first three minutes then 16 after that. Afterwards he said to me that the test starts as soon as the treadmill reaches 15km/h.

I think also it depends on your downward weight and the distance your legs move at each pace. Because the distance will obviously be reached quicker if there is little or no weight on the belt. Well everyone will be happy to know ive gone and fractured my rib again and the cpo at my local careers office said my PRMC will be at the end of september sometime!!!!! Typical!!!

I started mine at 16.5 and kept putting it up until I was doing 20 at the end and I still only got 8.55, so you must have been going faster to get your time.

Running machines are pretty odd depending on what one you use. The one at Woking where I did mine only went up to a setting of 15 to memory and I had it on max throughout and got 10 min something!! Apartently that's the fastest you could do it there?!
I guess part of it is how good a machine you get on the day!

Surley they wouldn't be that far out though. Someone who never went below 16.5km/h doing it slower than someone who never got above 16km/h. That's quite bad if it is, hell of a lot easier if you get one of the generous ones.

Any amount of Speed / Distance / Time calculators online that will mathematically prove what speeds will give what times (barring the first few seconds when gaining speed)
