I start my RT on 8th October and was wondering do you need to turn up with your boots polished up? If so do you have to make the front extremly shiny? I was talking to somebody who was in the RAF and he said all services have the boots like that?

Just a simple polished boot will suffice, don't go over the top.

Break them in... That's the most important thing.

Basically, when you get to RT you'll be given a new pair... The new pair become your camp boots, and they do have to be shiney. The ones you're breaking in now will be your field boots and no matter how hard you try, they'll look gash after a few weeks.

Polish them up, but don't go mental.

Hope this helps

Yer makes sense, whats the best way to break them in? Just wearing them? Ive heard you should wear them and go into water then walk around till they try, isnt that bad for you feet?

Getting them wet and walking in them does help... shouldn't affect your feet if its only for half an hour or so. (half an hour will do the trick) Ermmmmmm... they'll still be wet when you take them off, so pack newspaper inside of them and then put some polish on the boots.

What happens is... (this is the clever part) As the paper soaks the water through the boot, it draws polish in to the leather, and you'll be left with a nicely broken in boot... you may have to repeat the process depending on how new your boots are.

Yeah, just wear them... do some ironing in them, walks etc... it all helps

Yeah don't get them polished to shine as you'll get another pair when you arrive so the ones you got on your prmc will become your field boots (which can't be shiney) and your new ones will be your training boots (for marching around camp etc).

Royal do not 'bull' their boots like Perce, as long as they're black and have a hint of a sheen you're okay around camp, in the field just black. Only drill boots are bulled. Search for breaking in, been covered lots, many different methods.
