Drill nights will last 2 hours. It may be worth speaking to RMR Tyne. Explain that occassionally you won't have access to a car and therefore would not be able to attend on occassions - It may be possible to work round this ?
You will also be paid for your travel expenses.

As you know, competition is high. If you are serious about gaining a commission, the RMR will be most beneficial.

Rich.

Spot on. If you really want a career in the Corps then the RMR route is the one you should really go for. The Army and the RAF Regt Reservists may wear the same uniform save for the Cdo flashes and the Green Lid but they are totally different in their mindset from the RM, of that I can assure you.

Just to let you know, you've just missed the selection weekend for RMR Tyne which took place on the weeekend starting 19th June so there will be a bit of a wait until the next one. I live in Washington and it takes at least an hour to get there by bus and we have a couple of lads who travel up from Leeds every Tuesday all expenses paid. I would only worry about travel if it means you will miss a lot of the Tuesday nights, Thursday nights are just phys sessions so not essential but are you are recommended to adttend as many as possible.

I am not too sure if you get expenses paid for holding troop mind you.

I'd try to get involved if I were you, I've only been a member since June and just completed my first weekend "Ex First Step" and it has been awesome so far, I have learned so much in this little time.

Would be good to hear about what it was like.

RMR Tyne Selection Rough Guide:

Friday Evening: RMFA followed by scran

Saturday Morning: Swimming, scran

Saturday Afternoon: 3 miler (BFA)

Saturday evening: Issued kit, lessons on how to take care of it, rest of night spent getting ready for inspection the following day

Sunday Morning: Beach Pyhs session, by far the highlight of everyone's weekend

The rest of the Sunday was based around an inspection and some basic drill manoeuvres.

Cheers,

I thought you get the kit issued on the Induction weekend, I guess this isn't the case anymore?

Also, was the swimming test just jump off a board and swim a length of the pool?

Yeah we were issued kit on saturday like I said :-? . Swimming test was just a jump off the side then 2 lengths were completed followed by treading water for 3 mins then some daft games and races. We weren't allowed to jump off the board, health and safety I think since we hadn't properly signed up at that point of the weekend.

Was wanting to know the exact same question.

However how is it for a university student to be a part of the RMR and study or is that something that is highly unlikely?

I dont think the first question was really answered though. Will joining the TA affect RM appliation if you stated it was for experience gain?

Regards
