I know this is not a biking forum, but as there are many triathelites here, and all here are interested in fitness training, and challenge (hence royal marine forum

) I would post my story...
My grandmother died earlier this year due to Alziemers, my father and I are doing a 520Km bike ride carrying everything we need to survive, ie: food, tent, sleeping bags, water (in sahara

). The start of the bike ride is a 2000m ascent up the High Atlas Mountains.
I just thought i would share this with the people on this forum.

Thanks very much, its an evil disease, something that has affected my whole family, we thought that raising money is the best/only thing we could do.
My dad being ex RM himself up for a challenge, unable to run at all anymore due to injury, so biking is left. Neither of us are bikers, but by the end of october, i guess we will either be bikers or.. dead.
Thanks for the support, please show this to your freinds, and their freinds-freinds-cousins-uncles-sisters-brothers-etc-etc.
We need as much support as we can, i think £2000 is a bit steep.

Thanks alot mate, loosing someone is always hard.
I will try and keep everyone posted on the progression of training as well as how the fundraising is going. Going to be tough getting in the biking miles while trying to pass PRMC and continue into phase 1 training.
If anyone wants to sponsor PLEASE feel free, will be VERY much appreciated, be one of the first!!!

Definately good luck mate. I've always wanted to do the Marathon des Sables, which is a similar concept but is running/walking.

Sorry to here about you're loss mate but bloody well done for taking that one on!

I'm sure it will be tough but great fun and rewarding all at the same time. Be sure to tell us how you get on
I’ve always wanted to do the Marathon des Sables,
I've always been fascinated by this kind of ultra endurance event my self and hopefully will compete one day too (I think I’ll go for a standard marathon first though

)
Anyways best of luck embarking on such a big task... I'm sure you'll make it
Just don't forget to pack you’re sun tan lotion

Well done mate go for it.
If you've not already got one, consider setting up a 'justgiving' site (check out mine: [
edited out as event finished]).
Basically a way to get people to sponsor you online, works well and keeps track of progress.
How much water will you be carrying for that?
Sounds like a great challenge, really hope it goes well!
